Awesome funky rock track. Just a great piece of seventies music! I would highly recommend their "Essen tail Redbone" CD. They had some other winners on there. I'll definitely add some of their tracks to my MP3 player when I get a chance.

WTF! I always dug this song.
It was kinda obvious they were NA. I mean REDBONE WTF! The album covers scream their heirtage This was actually a cool band. Here's the Midnight Special apppearance I think the studio track would have rocked without the strings They had an earlier hit with "Witch Queen of New Orleans" A little more rocked out. test

As for the idiotic "setting Indian music back" comment
"Wounded knee" Feel the funk of the drums. They popped in at LA's African Marketplace a few yrs back and they funked shyt up with this jam. test

I remember loving the Real McCoy remake in the 90's and singing it all the time, and my mom told me it's a remake, but I never heard it until this thread cause I completely forgot about the song until now. I looooove this version, and you guys are being complete assholes to redbone! It's really good! I don't even feel like listening to the europop version now.

Love the group. I knew they were NA because I bought the album back in the day. Better than the shit on the radio today. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Its a great song, catchy as hell and I remember it from years ago, I didn't know they were first nations, what nation were they. Indian is a racist and outdated term. First nations and the Maori have a lot in common and they definitely don't need people rubbishing their music and culture. A lot of Maori artists were doing disco and dance tunes in the 7os too, eg Prince Tui Teka, the High Marks, John Stevens, John Rowles, Mark Williams all indigenous and proud like Redbone, and as funky as hell too So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

the title of this thread "70's crap of the week: Redbone, Come and get your love" You call it crap in the first two words. I don't about the US but I suspect its pretty universal that 70's crap means you don't like it, andmaybe you could have a grudge against 70's music. Some general info, on Wikipedia it says this song was Redbone's biggest hit, peaking at #5 Pop in April 1974 and it stay in the charts for a while and they got a gold record for it. Their only other big hit was in early 1972 with "The wicked witch queen of New Orleans which peaked at 21 Pop" Both songs were R and B smashes as well. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

The Temprees covered this song on their album '3'. I like it. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

It's your own fault. You called it crap in the title. Saying it was "the critics" that did the panning is shameless back-pedaling. You even go on how it set Indian ((Native American ok?) music back 20 yrs but you just now discovered they were NA. WTF ! Was that sarcasm? Doesn't flow like it. Looks like you just got caught with your ass out in public. [Edited 1/17/09 12:37pm] test

I know they were FN but it never really ocurred to me before to look into what nation or nations the band was. After looking through a few related websites, it seems the members of the band all had mixed ancestry that included FN blood, brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas are thought to have Seneca ancestry. The name of the band is a reference to the slang and somewhat derogatory reference to so-called half-breeds. I have to admit, even being "halfbreed" myself I'd never heard the term. Is that an American thing, perhaps? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

In the black community redbone ladies were always known to be fine. They had "good hair", "nice skintone" and a "regal look". I know kids make up crap about mixed breed kids, but that's envy and jealousy. By the time guys get interested in girls they are chasing down the redbones and other mixed-race girls. test

Sadly, the "Essential Redbone" is out of print (and apparently sells for a lot online but I wouldn't part with my copy). They have another set of their hits, though and it actually has 20 tracks (compared to 14).
A song that was likely an attempt to capitalize on the pop audience of "Come and Get Your Love" is "One More Time". Very poppy, with a funky sound and with a similar "la"'s. Here samples of some of their best below: http://www.amazon.com/The...317&sr=8-6

I have a Redbone compilation titled 'Redbone Greatest Songs',issued in 1995 on Curb Records. It's one of those "cheapo" compilations, containing only 10 songs.I'd rather have that Essential set that you mentioned.

All that's true in every ethnic community about how halfbreeds are viewed, even if we don't all use the same term. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
