The Knowles had Ferraris but the Jacksons had Rolls Royces, Lincolns and Cadillacs. Janet was living in the lap of luxury compared to Beyonce and 'em. They may have lived comfortably but they still weren't as rich as the Jacksons became AFTER the Motown success, lol.

Anyway, Beyonce almost 30 years old still under her daddy's control, I'm waiting for her to break away like Janet did at 20, lol.

The Knowles were NEVER rich when dude was working at Xerox and moms was doing harrruh. Bey really need to stop with the she was upper class bullshit. rolleyes Just cuz yo daddy drove a Jaguar don't make you upper crust. If that was the case every drug dealer would be in the social register and chillin' at the country club. lol

Having them for her brothers got her the exposure, but once again, Janet was not a HIT out the box, there was no pay for play going on. So yes it helped having Michael as her brother, but it was not a benefit to her selling, the MPLS sound was, thats what thrust her into the musical spotlight, and that had nothing to do with michael or the jackson family, that happend to be the sound that was hot for that time.

As for Beyonce she has benefited from pay for play, much in the way mariah did with her early records. Times are different now, ever since soundscan came into play in the early 90's labels and soundscan are hand in hand in everything. As is radio, and video stations.

Simple: They sucked. Janet at least had more talent than them, but it's truly ridiculous to sit here and act like she got "put on" WITHOUT her being connected to her famous brothers.

I doubt Janet has more talent than Jermaine. Infact out of the whole family I think Jermaine has the best voice, it's just that Michael had a more diverse voice which meant that his music was more varied.

The difference between Janet & the others comes down to material and producers. The fact of the matter is Jimmy Jam/Lewis said they wanted to work with Janet because she is a Jackson, that tells me if she weren't a Jackson they wouldn't give her the time of the day!!

No, my response was in reference to Rebbie and LaToya.

cool Beyonce has no reason to be afraid of Janet. Solange is just backing up her sis. I guess Beyonce feels she can say whatever she wants about any artist who now looks up at her.In her mind she has that control that Janet once sang about. I do think it was direspectful considering Janet Jackson has paved the way for her & other female artist(s). cool

Beyonce and Solange has no business talking about the jacksons as ghetto and class-less as they are. They can barely speak. You would think with them growing up in upper class they would have more manners and be able to speak well, and not that limited ghetto vocabulary they both have.
[Edited 1/9/09 15:11pm]

Totally!!!

Beyonce sounds like she never finished high school (did she?).

One would think that her parents (especially her mother) would want her to at least SOUND somewhat educated. I mean Prince likes to play around and can talk in his "prince-bonics" when he wants, but in his "normal" speaking voice in interviews he speaks grammatically and like an educated person. I don't think Beyonce can, which makes her "upper class" comments look even more foolish.

Yeah but Janet wasn't going to confront Bouncy. solange nad bouncy should hope they are still in the business when they get to be Janet's age.

I'm just talking about how sisters stick up for one another; there's nothing negative about that. It's natural, that's all.

Very true! smile

Janet can speak properly and intelligently. Has B ever done Larry King??

ALso this is off topic a bit, but while I admit Beyonce is probably a better singer in terms of technique (she can sing runs etc.), Janet has a much sweeter, pleasant sounding voice even if her range is less. Personally, I find Beyonce's voice to have a very unpleasant tone and sound.

Janet has been successful on her own merit, but that doesn't mean that the career wasn't handed to her. The doors were all opened for her, she didn't have to work for her chance. The difference between her and her sisters is that she was able to make a success of it.

Yea,Janet admits it was easier for her.

While it is true that they were huge assets, she clearly brought something important to the table as there were plenty of artists who worked with them (consistently) and flopped.

the only thing I see that she brought to the table was not wanting to sound like her brother, other than that she borrowed the dance concept from MJ (though she made it her own i still say MJ layed the groundwork and she wanted to incorporate that), which is a huge part of janet's success and she had JJ and TL to bring forth the great songs. i still say she was very lucky and fortunate.

with great looks, excellent producers laying that minneapolis funk down, great songs, great dance routines and the jackson name, she was destined for success.
[Edited 1/10/09 9:36am]

She borrowed the "dance concept" from MJ? She was just a talented dancer, like so many before MJ, whose dancing became an integral part of her image and artistic identity.

If it was that easy for a female Jackson to score a hit with hot producers/songwriters, Latoya and Rebbie would have had smashes of their own.

latoya and rebbie did not dance and there producers did not produce great songs like JJ and TL did.

mj did not create the dance concept but i'm sure janet saw the powerful impact it had during the thriller era so she continued the same routine. your telling me if mj never danced janet would have come up with the same thing and I find that very hard to believe.

I think by "dance concept", wonder505 probably meant the militaristic formation dancing, which she famously pioneered in one of her early videos (I forget which one, sorry). It's commonly considered one of her greater contributions to the music scene as a whole, but in fact it was Michael who came up with it. He tested it out in his Captian Eo thing, and when Janet saw it, she liked it so much that he let her be the first to do it in a widely distributed video. Both of them agree on this version of events, I think, I can't remember there having been any dispute?

Okay, back on topic now. smile

Rhythm Nation.

If Mike had minded, you'd think he sue but he didn't so in that case why bitch on Janet "riding" on MJ's train, she was able to make success off of it on her own merit, was she not? No one was checking for Mike when RN came out. They all presume he was retired as he told the press back then. lol
