His drug use not to mention his perm is tragic in itself "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

drug use? where the hell have I been? Maybe his perm was so bad cause the drugs clouded his taste. Is his drug use what got him kicked out of The Time? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

No, but he was using later on the 80s I've read about it before "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Tons of people were on drugs in the 80s. Alexander O'Neal is not unique in that regard. There has to be more tragedy in his life than that, plus, he isn't all that talented "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I picked one: Mary Wells. Her story after Motown was tragic.

Mary Wells was in abusive relationships, some say her career was messed with because her first husband told her that Motown would limit her abilities, no one really promoted her non-Motown material, she got involved with two of the Womack brothers (not Bobby, but Cecil and Curtis), dealt with drug and alcohol abuse, then just as she was getting her life and career back together, she had throat cancer and died shortly thereafter at the age of 49.

I thought "Unsung" premise was about very talented singers/musicians who should have had bigger careers but did. Why? I would hope the show could have a more 3 dimensional aspect to it, rather of going for the proverbial "car wreck" everytime. They're other reasons why some are "Unsung" ...not just because of personal foibles or self-destruction, but that's just me. The Emotions were a bit more than one hit wonders. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...e_Emotions [Edited 1/8/09 23:16pm]

But the reasons most artists don't have bigger careers is because of drugs or tragedy.
The Pointer Sisters should get an UnSung "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

But did they have drug use? Tragedy? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I don't think Unsung isn't about the tragedies an artist faced, but instead telling their stories when no one else really did. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I had heard thatthe sister that left the group Deniece Clark had died but during the unsung episode it was never mentioned. Now I am curious is she dead or is that just some awful rumor.

Denise Clark is very much alive today. My thing is she probably refused to participate in the program and probably told her sisters out of respect not to get involved. She's pretty much like her mother now as a full-fledged minister.

My point exactly. The Clark Sisters was the only story where no drug abuse was talked about, but they talked about tragedy and near tragedy tho.

The Pointer Sisters should get an UnSung So true, so true..... The Pointer Sisters had an AMAZING pop career through the 80's that was quite international though, not just limited to the domestic or R&B genre. They're still collecting checks over here in Europe and perform very well on the oldies' circuit, and their tickets (in Euros) ain't cheap.
