Critics just love Lil Wayne. Are we insane?

I guess we just don't get his greatness. Sure he's clever, but his froggy voice just doesn't move me. Rolling Stone even said that he has one of the greatest voices of the 21st century?? ouch. Are they slumming? lol.

I don't really get the love for him either. I'm not (necessarily) doubting he has the goods as an MC. But when compared against MCs in hip-hop history, IMHO, he'd be lucky to be 2d tier.

They like him because he is ignorant and I honestly think critics and the record companies love pumping up an ignorant black man as a form of entertainment. Once his 15 min are up they will go out and find another one. It is really sad when so many talented artist are ignored because they do not go around conducting themselves like ignorant ass clowns.

I don't get it either. Lollipop was just hot garbage to me. Plus, once Lil Wayne made a derogatory statement against gays on one of his songs, I was done fucking with him.

Then he's a hypocritical, sexually confused, ugly hobbit-looking jackass then. Wait, he already was. lol I've seen so-called "R&B singers" do better freestyles to that "Milli" joint than he did. He's fucking wack.

I loved Tha Carter III in 2008 as much as I loved Ghostface Killah's Supreme Clientele in 2000.

I think Carter 3 is a great album. Definitely one of the best hip-hop albums of the decade.

Amazon MP3 had the whole album for $5.00 last week so I said what the hell let me see what all these people are talkin' bout. I listened and was like eek .

That was horrible. I want my $5.00 back!

And yet, I can imagine there being a Ghostface backlash had Supreme Clientele been as highly rated as Lil Wayne's offering was. I just enjoy Tha Carter III for what it is. shrug

This is what Rolling Stone said:

""Next time you mention Pac, Biggie or Jay-Z/Don't forget Weezy Baby," croaks Lil Wayne, and he earns that audacious boast. The most eagerly anticipated hip-hop album of the decade is also the best, from the joyously silly Auto-Tune-on-steroids chart-topper, "Lollipop," to the uproarious "Dr. Carter," in which Wayne dons scrubs to revive moribund hip-hop. The dadaist punch lines hit their marks, but Lil Wayne's greatness lies not just in what he says, but in the way he says it — the virtuoso variations in mood and meter, tone and timbre that mark the MC, as much as any singer, as one of 21st-century pop's great vocal stylists."

It is generous, but they got most of the next-level criteria correct.
