Remember Carleen Anderson?

I kinda lost track of her, but her debut album was SO sweet to me back in the day.

My favourite track still is Morning Love, which is sexy all the way through, but gets real sticky around 4:09 into the song, when this new lazy groove starts and Carleen does some moaning those French Gainsbourg babes could identify with.

heart

OMG, yes! Are we the only ones? I loved this album. Thought she was going to have a bit more success than she did.

She does a great Oasis..

Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Small note; I think she said in an interview once that she considered her step-father Byrd to be her real dad.

Also, she is related to Jhelisa, of Young Disciples fame.

Carleen is Vicki Anderson's daughter - which is why the girl can sing!!
Vicki was singer on the James Brown show in the 1960s and briefly in the 1970s, recording hits like You've got the power (with Brown), In the land of milk and honey, Answer to Mother Popcorn (I got a mother for you), The Message from the Soulsisters, Don't throw your love in the Garbage Can and many more. Vicki married Bobby Byrd, hence Bobby became Carleen's step-father. As a child, she traveled with her parents on the James Brown Show.
Carleen got her high-pitched voice from Vicki, that's for sure.

Some examples:

I remember when Carleen joined the Bobby Byrd Show in the late 1980s. I first heard her in 1989 and she blew me away. In 1990, she became more popular in London's Acid Jazz scene when she became lead singer of The Young Disciples. Their only album Road to Freedom is amazing!!

Yes, she's a great singer. Such a great voice coming from such a tiny body. I wish she would go back to the roots and record music like her mom did.
