Queen Latifah says power to the people: pick a song for next album at 12:29 on January 7, 2009, EDT.
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES - Queen Latifah, host of the People's Choice Awards, is bringing new meaning to popular choice. She's giving fans the chance to write and pick a song for her next album. The contest, launching on Wednesday night's People's Choice ceremony on CBS, invites aspiring singer-songwriters to submit an original tune for Latifah's "Persona" album, due out this spring. Latifah will narrow the submissions down to three next month and let fans decide the winner, who will record with the pop star and actress ("Chicago," "The Secret Life of Bees"). Latifah says she expects the contest, conducted with People's Choice and its website, www.pcavote.com, to find a "fresh new voice and a hot new song." ©The Canadian Press, 2009 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Is she returning to rap? I sort of like that rap she did with Alicia Keys on some show or another.

Im so sick of this crap, the Grammy's starting doing this now, a few years back we had to sit through two awful Justin Timberlake performances with some clown that won a contest. I mean i know this all for ratings and the bottom line sales, but the music industry and the internet is filled with enough BAD talent, do we have to start dragging in joe nobody off the street? I thought Latifah had some sense, to say that this how we will find a "fresh new voice and sound", please, give me a break latifah. I love the Queen, shes a smart business woman, I'm sure she'll make a good decision. After all, it is just one single, it wont cause the collapse of the music industry. The song could be good. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

The song could be good. but its up to the player to create a new game, or at least not make it a game. This whole generation of reality shows and internet you tube karaoke and american idol shows are most of the reason we have the crap we have today. Latifah should be against the grain like she was, i can guarantee this single is going to be nothing new, nothing fresh, its gonna be the same old crap all over again. As for the industry, its already collapsed thats why they are resorting to these crap gimmicks. But I am a fan of Latifah and her music. I've liked a lot of her various projects over the years; and I'm interested to see how this album sounds. And no I'm not playing roulette and hoping this new single will save the industry... but it could be interesting, time will tell. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!
