Rose Royce...let's clap y'all

Did you grow up listening to their music, or did you just discover them recently? When I got their Greatest Hits many years ago, I had quite an awakening about all their hits. For some reason I couldn't believe that the same group that made Car Wash also had these hits:

I Wanna Get Next To You
I'm Going Down
Ooh Boy
Wishing on a Star
Love Don't Live Here Anymore

It just didn't seem like the same group to me, that's all. Does anybody have any favorite Rose Royce hits? I think they are one of the forgotten R&B groups of the 70's and 80's.

I always thought their strength was their ballads. I once owned their greatest hits collection and couldn't really get into their uptempo songs. Some of their ballads are excellent though.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

My favorite Rose Royce song is "Wishing On A Star",one of the most beautiful ballads I have ever heard. This song is a sheer masterpiece and it's been covered by quite a few artists. The lyrics are really effective...

"Just think of all the moments that we spent
I just can't let you go,for me you were meant
And I didn't mean to hurt you,but I know
That in the game of love you reap what you sow"

I frequently see this group in concert and they totally kick ass! In the mid-90s,they released an excellent "Live" CD that y'all should check out.

I agree..but believe me they are not forgotten. They are still a successful touring band. I know what you meant by the header of this post, because everytime Car Wash comes on from the very beginning... lol

Well you just added it to the list wink Mine wasn't the definitive list, otherwise I would have listed every song they ever recorded.

A few years ago,I bought a very good hits compilation from Rose Royce, released on Rhino Records. It contains:

"Car Wash"
"Born To Love You"
"I'm Going Down"
"Do Your Dance Pt.1"
"Ooh Boy"
"Wishing On A Star"
"You're My World Girl"
"I'm In Love (And I Love The Feeling)"
"Love Don't Live Here Anymore"
"Is It Love You're After"
"Pop Your Fingers"
"Golden Touch"
"And You Wish For Yesterday"
"Would You Please Be Mine"
"Lonely Road"

It's not a great compilation by any means (where is "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is","First Come,First Serve" and their 1986 hit "Doesn't Have To Be This Way"???),but until they release a more definitive collection,it will have to do.And it does contain excellent liner notes.
