Recommend some good albums for me to listen to.



I'm not really interested in 'mood' music, and even though I like neo-soul, I want something grittier. So can somebody recommend a good soul or soulful album that's relatively recent?

I would love to hear modern updates to stuff like:
Wilson Picket
Solomon Burke
even Janis Joplin.

From Raphael Saadiq's latest cd, "The Way I See It" His entire cd is in this vein with early 70's slow jam elements as well.

How you gonna ask for Soul Music and then ask for recent acts I had my list ready. Frank Mccomb is good and Glenn Lewis although going towards the "neo soul" as you put it.Saadiq's album is good. Al Green's latest album is good too, although it doesn't top his 70s work.

You need some soul dude, next time you come to visit, I want you to sing Soul music, not country.

There are no contemporary versions of the names mentionned, just stick to your collection. Nowadays its called neo-soul, R'n'b which are in no way related to Soul music
