Minnie Ripperton

My goodness, this woman has to have the sweetest, purest voice I've ever heard. Karen Carpenter is right up there as well, her voice was so pure. Minnie's voice was just so lovely, I read somewhere that she had a five+ octave range, but it's such a shame she died so young. I think she's quite underrated. It's true most people know "Loving You" but she had other great songs and was genuinely talented . I always hear people talking about Mariah and her high register notes, but Minnie was doing that way back then and did it better imo. Minnie did it so effortlessly too.

The difference between Mariah and Minnie is this. While Minnie used her voice as an instrument, Mariah,(especially when she first came on the scene), used that 5 octave as a gimmick. Minnie, was in a class by herself. Chante Moore reminds me of her quite a bit.

I've been into Minnie Ripperton since I was about 3 years old and I've yet to hear anyone with a voice as beautiful as hers.

I do like Dawn Robinson from EnVogue. I don't know how many octaves she has but I think her voice is beautiful too. She has a nice pure sounding voice. Although, she has nothing on Minnie.

Yeah, she sort of reminds me of her too. Chante is another underrated singer. I saw her sing "Lovin You" not too long ago on some tv show (can't remember the show) and thought she did a good job, though I still like Shanice Wilson's cover best.

I love Shanice's rendition of Beyonce's "If I were a boy", I saw it on Youtube and it was pretty good.
