This song has a long history.Prince wrote it in 1979 for the Rebels project.I'm sure many of you have that version on your bootlegs It was drastically reworked in 1990 for Paula Abdul. He also offered her the song "Don't Say U Love Me" and a few other tracks, but she only chose "U".

I love the 1979 version. Could be a hit still. By some american pseudo Punkrock band [Edited 12/31/08 11:31am]

not to be a nit-picker, but a couple of corrections.... the Paula Abdul version was re-worked in 1987 around the time he was putting together the Black Album. Don't Say U Love Me was indeed written for Paula, but Martika snapped it up during their sessions together, so Prince offered up "U" instead. Paula clearly got the better end of the deal.

Love the album, but "u", stealing the "everybody dance now" guitar riff, is quite intricate but quite dull aswell. The next track on the CD, filler "my foolish heart", was proof that Family Stand could do funky pop better then Prince at the time.
