The Pointer Sisters: Up All Nite (1987) TV special

Who remembers this REALLY FUN television special for The Pointer Sisters?

It starts with them on stage singing a sweaty encore of "Jump For Your Love".

Anita, June, and Ruth make their way backstage and start changing out of their costumes and talking to each other about going out after the show.

One of the sisters needs a little coaxing. One of them throws in a cassette of "I'm So Excited" and convinces her it will be fun.

They hop into a Cadillac or something with the top down and scream off into the night.

They walk into a few nightclubs and end up giving impromptu performances.

They meet up with Bruce Willis and sing "Express Yourself"

Walk into a lounge and sing some old Andrew Sisters tribute.

Find their way into a church and sing some gospel, "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and reminisce on growing up in the church.

Go to an amusement park and sing a medley of their hits "Automatic", "Dare Me", "Twist My Arm", "Neutron Dance" in a carousel, house of mirrors and bumper cars.

At the end of the night they make their way to a retro diner where Whoopi Goldberg is waiting their table, and they lipsync to The Temptations "I Can't Get Next To You" on the jukebox.

When they are finally calling it a night and leaving the diner, they find their sweet ride was stolen! They decide to walk together and join in singing "I Need You" to build their spirits.

I really wish it was! I haven't been able to come across it.

I am sure if I dug through the old VHS at my mom's house I could find the original taping straight off the TV. lol

If you couldn't tell by my description, I used to watch it alot when I was younger. I wish more music artists were featured in cheesy special features where you get to learn a bit more about them. I think it worked for the Pointer Sisters because they are family and already had a very natural back-and-forth between each other and actually had history... so they can reminisce on things like church and you know it's not just another gimmick.

I think the song they performed with Bruce Willis is actually "Respect Yourself",a remake of an old Staples Singers tune that Bruce recorded in the mid-80s (with the Pointer Sisters on background vocals,no less) wink

I don't remember this particular TV special but I remember back in the day, these things were quite common (especially in the 70s).In fact,in the same year that this special aired (1987),Diana Ross had her own TV special called "Red Hot Rhythm and Blues".

I LOVED THE POINTER SISTERS NBC TV SPECIAL "UP ALL NITE". I REMEMBER TAPING IT WHEN I WAS A KID AND WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER. WHOOPIE GOLDBERG WAS ALSO A GUEST ON THE SHOW. I LOVED IT.

THE POINTER SITSTERS WERE REALLY SLAMMIN' IN THE 80'S (SERIOUS SLAMMIN').

I used to have this on VHS somewhere, loved the pointer sisters especially at this point in their career, and Bruce Willis was the shit at this point, with Moolighting and i played his album to death (sorry) it was a cheesy album but i would take it today in a "Heartbeat" (no oun intended Don Johnson) over most of whats out there.
