I know there's too much hype sometimes regarding her image and personal life. But that woman can sing very well. Listen to some of her songs that are NOT popular, like "Flaws and All," "Speechless," "Woman Like Me," or "Be With You," and U will find she has excellent vocal skill, with great range, appropriate power, and control.

I noticed the samples immediately after I first heard it too, but her vocals are still great to me. I just really like her vibrato.

As for the main topic, once again we see org ignorance in all it's glory. Most of the people listed here are not taken seriously in the first place. I mean, Ashanti?! So if I may be permitted to give a serious answer I give you..... JANIS JOPLIN! (Or Marge Simpson as I think of her). Also, while I have a lot of respect for David Bowie and think he's had some great moments, I think his work is very patchy. He lags far behind Prince for instance. I guess you could throw Madonna in here too, although there are at least a large number of people out there who see her for the faker she is. Unfortunately those voices are not represented in the media where there is a code of silence at work. Madonna's shitness is one of those unmentionables, like Barack Obama not really being black. It's something everyone's meant to keep quiet about.
