LaBelle`s "Back to now" album

Did anyone else buy this cd? I`ll buy almost anything with Patti`s voice on it, but this was kinda boring. However, i liked songs like "Without you in my life", "Dear Rosa" and "Miss Otis Regrets"

I got it as a gift.

I love Patti. Have seen her more times than I can remember, and was even at the taping of "Live One Night Only".

That said, I didn't love this CD. I only really like 3 songs on it. The 1st one, the one NOna wrote "I don't wanna talk about it, i don't wanna think about it, " etc. and the Miss Otis Regrets.

I don't get it. The last great CD from Patti was Burnin' and LIve ONe night only.

I feel the same way as you do. I love Patti and have seen her live about 7 or 8 times, but her last great r&b cd was Burnin'(I thought the gospel album and the last Christmas album were good). I have liked songs from the other albums (Gems,Flame, etc.), but Burnin' was an excellent album.

With that said, the "Back To Now" album sucked royally. There were only a few decent songs.

I just listend to this album for the first time this week. I downloaded four of the songs. I really like "Candelight" the most. I also like "How Long," "System" and "Tears for the World." They each have their moments. I really did not care for the other songs that much. However, the ladies still sound great and Nona is still a talented writer. I also thought Lenny Kravitz and Kenny Gamble did a good job on the songs they produced.

No. I downloaded or listened to my favorite Patti song of all time, You Are My Friend, and I didn't like the arrnagement on that album. It was shocking actually.

BTW my friend is in Patti's "Boom Boom"choir and they did You Are My Friend on the Patti Christmas Special.

I brought this album a couple of months ago and I couldn't really get into most of the material. I wouldn't consider this the biggest comeback of the decade, but some songs were decent. The new album has so many sappy yet soulful ballads, but it doesn't bring the funk and flair. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Back to Now is more of a modern Patti record than a Labelle record. But it is good to see the girls back together again though. I think they're going on tour sometime early this year.

I have it and like it -- especially "Tears of the World." But I do have to agree, it is kind of a disppointment. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Patti LaBelle - but you have to wonder where the other two are on this record. I mean, it seems like you hear nothing but Patti! Let the other two sing a little, Ms. LaBelle. I am relieved, however, that they did NOT do an update of 'Lady Marmalade.'

True. My bf.....who bought it for me and even though he likes Patti ....he gets annoyed by her antics in recent years..... He was like "mm hmmm.. so this is just another PATTI record" smile

Interestingly, he thought that the the vintage cut of Miss Otis was Sarah ..... Miss Patti's voice does sound different from back then.

I guess they're trying to prove that they can still rope in the young bucks (lol). I saw the BET interview with them recently and they all look great. I didn't know that Patti cooks food and brings it to the Stones when they play in Tri-State area.

Maybe the next CD will have some more funk rock flair. They said they plan to make more.

It's not the worst album cover ever. There are TONS out there worse than this.

You don't like the club guys on the side?

Patti cooks for everyone. In her book, she went to Prince's home to cook (when they were working together) and never got the opportunity.

I would love to have Patti and Aretha cook for me one day biggrin

In case that doesn't happen, I highly recommend you pick up Patti's first cook book. It has some really good recipies. I have cooked a lot of items and they are all pretty good. My favorite is the Broccoli raab.

She also describes some cooking experiences. The potato salad one is the funniest.
