Kenny Lattimore bores the HELL OUT OF ME!!!! His last album, I think its about love song covers or something...awful. He remade an Otis Redding classic... i can't even put it into words how awful it is. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Americans of African descent are so narrow-minded in that they tend to hold homosexuality as such a negative that they lose perspective on talent or accomplishment. This is what handicapped with Tevin Campbell after his arrest in Los Angeles for soliciting an undercover male cop for sex. It also stunted Jesse Powell. Some MCA/Universal staffers didn't even like going on promo appearances with him and 'gay bashed' him behind his back. Some posters may say well Luther Vandross broke through and so did Freddie Jackson. Yeah true, but Jackson couldn't buy a comeback hit now. It seemingly has no effect on people like Elton John, or the late Freddie Mercury (lead singer of Queen). Jesse Powell??? Never heard that... . [Edited 1/3/09 13:56pm] Jesse Powell? Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Band of Gold - Freda Payne Freda Payne was a "cabaret singer", just like Dorothy Dandridge & Lena Horne before her, just not as successful. She and Barbara McNair got the raw deal because by the 60s, intrests were shifted toward a RAWER breed of female singers, as opposed to the refined and sophisticated ladies of the cabarets, folks got sick of that scene, they wanted some throwing down, thats why Tina Turner & Aretha Franklin ruled that era with an iron fist. Wow, thanks for that information, but you're right about Tina and Aretha. I remember my father never missing a show that Tina appeared on. Apparently he was "ga-ga" for Tina.

Okay, I'm going waaay back, before some of you young'uns were probably born
The one and only "Sam Harris" Singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at the Apollo Theatre in NYC and got a standing ovation (and he's singing it Patti LaBelle's style, especially at the end of the song) He was also on Star Search some years ago. I love his voice, when he sings that song, he gives you chills. just awesome.. Sam takes you to chu'ch singing "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" with the Choir. Can I get an Amen brotha Sam?? They Say Vision Golden Boys She should have been a huge star. She had the total package: looks, talent, unique voice, solid music, edgy, etc. It's criminal that her career never quite took off. "How I Do" is in my top 5 albums list of the 2000's.

[Edited 1/3/09 16:42pm] Yeah, I remember this singer from Star Search. I was surprised he didn't go mainstream, too. I could be wrong, but I think that the reason he didn't is because maybe record companies back then wasn't looking for or ready for a white R&B singer. Rock and Pop was dominating the charts for white singers. Same with rap. The Beastie Boys opened the door for other white rappers like Eminem. [Edited 1/3/09 17:02pm]

Here's two more:
Dionne Ferris - "Hopeless" (I also enjoyed her hit "I Know) To see Dionne's vid to her song "I Know" video on youtube, here's the link. If I post it here, it will only play for a few minutes then disable, since the embedding feature is disabled, so here's the link." http://www.youtube.com/wa...HsJe94TdhA ----- Another r&b artist with a beautiful voice, Trina Broussard - "Inside My Love" [Edited 1/3/09 17:11pm]

He has an amazing voice. The soul just comes right out of his bones. I love it when he sings "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" just beautiful. I think I just played that youtube vid about 5 times just now. It's amazing how many artists that are out there, that never really got the spotlight on them, and these are artists with "real" talent.

One strike against her: She didn't pass the brown paper bag test. However, she looks like model Toccara, but slimmer.

Most of the people I thought of have been mentioned already (Chante Moore, Tamia, Deborah Cox, Glenn Lewis, Res, Amerie, Mya, Rashann Patterson), but I thought these artists would have blown up more than they did:
Macy Gray Jill Scott Amel Larrieux D'Angelo Nikki Costa Christina Millian and probably the one who should have been the most huge of all.... Lauryn Hill

Missing You was a big hit He was big enough. In addition to "Missing You," he had 3 other top-4 hits ("Touch Me, Tease Me," "Faded Pictures" with Joe, and "Happily Ever After"). Say what you want about Carl Thomas, but "I Wish" and "Summer Rain" were both fantastic. Those may have been good, but the rest of his album sucked. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
