She was like a little girl at a fancy dress party, smiling to herself, thinking "Hey, look where I am!!!! There's Barbara, looking at MEE!!! Woops, keep it down, this is meant to be serious."
On the Related Videos scroll they had another performance (presumably from the same event?) which demonstrates the conviction that Bey (like most of her mainstream peers) lacks. The song did nothing for me, but nonetheless, it's an instructive comparison. Bettye Lavette, unlike Beyonce, is not an impostor. Yes, that's a performance with heart and soul. How many today sings with it? I don't know if its me, but those dudes sitting with Barbara looked spaced out.

The same thing with Mariah. She's so incredibly talented and gifted, but she chooses to sing crap like "Touch My Body".Makes no sense. Well, shitty second-rate material is what is selling right now....why wouldn't they record stuff like that if it gives them millions of dough? Let Beyonce put out a decent album with grown up adult lyrics, no matter how good she sounds, it will sell, but it won't give her the kind of dough she sees when she does her teenage lyric albums. [Edited 1/2/09 8:58am] While u are 100% correct.....that does not appease my EARS.

Well once her current sound gets tired (the org will say it's BEEN tired, but anyway) I am guessing Beyonce will move in this direction.

She should take advice from this fan. As much as he loves her, he knows her career is going down the wrong path:

Very nice. Much better than when she does her own material.
Beyonce does have a decent voice. The problem is the music she does. A lot of it's trashy and juvenile. She'd do much better with adult contemporary or a softer, smoother R&B. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

she should fire her dad and hire him! I'm not the most ardent Be' follower, but given what I do know of her career, I have to agree. And I love the bow dude's got in his hair. I've had this things lately with wearing huge, little girl bows in my hair. I wonder what colour his is. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I think if she was going to do any singers, she should have traded in the Etta James role and do Tammi Terrell if they ever did a production on her life.

I suspect the only place you can still find it may be in the gospel world. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a gospel fan) there doesn't seem to be the same two way traffic between gospel and soul that there used to be. Maybe because soul is dead. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
