I know that I am gonna get allot of flack for this but, I am hungover, so I really don't care. In my opinion, Beyonce is one of the most talented artist that I have seen in a long time. The problem starts with her dad trying to ram her down our throats. He wants her to be seen EVERYWHERE....and for her to do EVERYTHING... This is not good. It has caused some people to turn away. If he and the rest of her management team were smart, they would handle her the same way that they did her sister. Solange, kinda did things in small doses and it paid off. Her CD, was one of the best of '08, in my opinion. They need to think things out more with Beyonce, stop with this two personality shit, (Sasha/Beyonce). Doing shit like that, makes them look like they have no confidence in her material and makes her look like idiot to allot of people. If the two personality thing was her idea, they should have told her, "HELL NO"!! They are so busy with getting the "Beyonce" name in our heads, that they are forgetting about substance. My advice to her is, lay low for '09 and come back in 2010. If they were smart, they would organize a D3 reunion of sorts. I think Matthew disbanded that group way to early. Let them get back together and maybe put out an album. Yes, Beyonce's name would still be attached to it, but if done right, it could work.

They never really marketed Beyonce for the adult contemporary market, eh?

Yeah, that was good.

I like Gladys Knight's version too: the arrangement from the band was more lively.

Yes, she's beautiful, especially here, and I do not believe that everyone is denying her talent at all,but management isn't allowing other talented artist out there to shine, and don't care. I also believe other female artists are now afraid to release their CD's because of it. If management doesn't do anything now with her image, the public can surely lose interest and start throwing eggs at her. Therefore, I agree with most of what you've said.

OMG. You thought she did a good job?

I saw the event on TV and it was horrible.
First of all the getup is trashy and not a good imitation of Babs style.
She looks like she belongs in B.A.P.S

Secondly, did you see the first performer. Now she gave an outstanding tribute. Strong and powerful voice, magnetic, and she captured that Broadwayesque Streisand style (but of course that woman -- i forget her name but she was in Rent and is married to Taye Diggs -- is a broadway performer).

Beyonce was so out of place. No standing o at the end and Barbara looked like she was grimacing throughout and giving the conciliatory nods.

C'mon. That was boring as hell. Why do people praise Beyonce for mediocre stuff? Now, her Kennedy tribute to Tina Turner -- awessome! This one? Please. Next.

All ican say is WHY cant you pull off good ballads on your records? Reason.....Bad producers, bad writers, and NO INSTRUMENTS. Thats not just a shot to Beyonce, that freaking goes for so many doing music now, especially the mainstreamers. One of the BEST BALLADS i heard this year was from Richard Marx "through my veins" off his new record, its well written, well produced, and played just on the piano, when i heard this i said, "why cant anyone do a good ballad anymore?" and mainly its not the talent, its just everyone is stuck in this lame ass production era, and midtempo bullshit, that no one is just doing the basics anymore. Even Lionel Richie, master ballad maker, his new single once again, totally suffers from him trying to be "down", midtempo, slick production, it just made me want to smack Lionel and say "NO!!" listen to the simple things you used to do and go from there, leave the wanna-be Ne-yo stuff at the door.

I thought Beyonce did a good job.

But my favorite performance was by Nathan Gunn eek .. the baritone who sang the duet from West Side Story!

His voice is wonderful, and he is so handsome..

Yep sums it up , i've seen her live DC days and she has talent but her songs are really bad ...there not even good pop tunes...she should stayed with DC and learn to write with Kelly and start to produce really good CD's DC would be massive if they changed their style ...Her dad's got alot to answer for.. sad she is not ready for solo work DC has miles left in them they could have grown into a real group and produced quality work while they are still young and can move around a stage..sad loss.

I saw the show when it aired on tv this week, though I did skip this part lol

Beyonce made a good effort, but nothing beats Barbara's version...NOTHING.

I enjoyed the tribute to Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend though, there's was the best tribute, in my opinion...well minus Joss Stone. lol
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Exactly.Beyonce is a great singer, but she wastes her talent with second-rate material.Could somebody please get her away from these shit hop producers and put her in the studio with some REAL musicians who know how to compose a song?! The same thing with Mariah. She's so incredibly talented and gifted, but she chooses to sing crap like "Touch My Body".Makes no sense.

Well, shitty second-rate material is what is selling right now....why wouldn't they record stuff like that if it gives them millions of dough? Let Beyonce put out a decent album with grown up adult lyrics, no matter how good she sounds, it will sell, but it won't give her the kind of dough she sees when she does her teenage lyric albums.

You guys don't have a clue. Vocally, Bey was okay, but she had no authority on that stage. She was like a little girl at a fancy dress party, smiling to herself, thinking "Hey, look where I am!!!! There's Barbara Streisand, looking at MEE!!! Woops, keep it down, this is meant to be serious."

On the Related Videos scroll they had another performance (presumably from the same event?) which demonstrates the conviction that Bey (like most of her mainstream peers) lacks. The song did nothing for me, but nonetheless, it's an instructive comparison. Bettye Lavette, unlike Beyonce, is not an impostor.
