Telstar: The Movie

The official trailer is up on YouTube...

In case you weren't aware, it's a bio-pic about Joe Meek, the legendary British record producer.

Amongst his accomplishments are his punk work-ethos (stamping in bathtubs when drums just weren't loud enough); the first record by a UK group to hit #1 on the U.S. Singles Chart ('Telstar' by The Tornadoes); and arguably creating the first ever concept album (the very odd 'I Hear A New World' from 1959).

Here's The Honeycombs' 'Have I The Right' which features many of his trademark production techniques: stamping; heavy compression; handclaps; speeded-up vocals etcetera...

Meek was a fascinating character. Although he ended his life as a murderer, I can't help feeling some empathy towards him.
