I was raising a pretty valid point...James was no saint, to say the least. Countless musicians who've played with him will tell stories of being ripped off as well; it doesn't change his status as the funkiest man ever. Again, mega1999fan, like your friend Michael Jackson, their flaws don't diminish their art. But I can't stand the white washing deification particularly of those who've passed away, and see nothing wrong with mentioning James' distasteful side. Very few of us are pure good or evil.

Well, she's an incredibly forgiving person.

For what it's worth, I saw her live at the Jazz Cafe backed by the Soulpower Allstars, who I presume you're familiar with , and she looked as though she was going to drag the sax player back to her hotel room with all the comments she was making about him. She was hilarious!

Bad memories about that show. It was one of the last with the original cast of the Soulpower Allstars and they sucked - bigtime. It was so bad that I was embarrassed. I DJed at the show and I remember Keb Darge coming in the DJ booth to hang out, and he was like WTF? Marva was great, as almost always, but that October 2005 Jazz Cafe show was one of the worst shows ever. Sorry to have to tell you. You should have came back in '06, when we had an all new set of Soulpower Allstars, or for the James Brown Tribute in early '07 with Push as backing band. Marva has also played a couple of times with Osaka Monaurail at Jazz Cafe since, which is the absolute best band for her.

Have heard a lot of good things about her with the Osaka Monaurail from a friend in Bremen who has put them on a few times.
