Marv Johnson - Come to Me (1959; the FIRST Motown record released!)

Released first locally on the Tamla (Motown) recording label. The song was co-written by its founder Berry Gordy, Jr. and was released in Detroit in 1959.

Berry sold rights to the song to United Artists and the song went top 30 on the pop charts. Marv Johnson, the singer behind it, was a local Tamla artist and signed nationally with United Artists later known for the hit "You've Got What It Takes".

This song predated Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)" and the first Miracles release, "Bad Girl" as the first release off possibly the greatest label in pop, rock and soul music history.

Marv later recorded nationally for Motown in the mid-'60s and continued to work in Motown's staff until the late 1970s. Johnson died of a massive heart attack in 1993 at the age of 54.
