Listen to NEW George Michael song

haven't heard to it yet properly but I think it's okay but again a song without an instant catchy melody.Maybe a grower

C'mon people. No responses so far?

Well, now I listened to it abut 15 times... It's not the huge disapointment I feared it would become...
But unfortunately it's not as good as I dreamed. He has definitively written better Christmas songs before...

Like anything he did since his outing I find it hard to make out a certain structure that's so necessary for pop music (as he considers jimself and his music).
Especially the verses go like nowhere. The chorus is interesting though, but again not as catchy as all the choruses he wrote in the past but goes to intersting places...

All in all I have to say the only part that touches me is the intro/outro. He perfectly captured that 1940s american Christmas records sound and feeling.
But it's the same as with Patience songs like "My Mother Had A Brother"... I can see it's intersting but the melody seems so uncertain...

I guess that comes from the way he writes nowadays. He makes the backing tracks and jams musically and lyrically over it while he's stoned. Maybe that's the reason the melodies are strange.

hey, hasn't anyone got an opinion? It's fuckin George Michael and not an mediocre singer noone knows?!

On the GM forums the girls think it's beautiful but they say this on every occasion, they even say he's still sexy though he looks 10 years over his actual age and became fat and stuff.

What I mean is that you can't really talk about GM's music on those forums because you will get attacked by all his female fans.

So, what do YOU think?

Where's biboy87 when you need him?

First listen as I get ready to walk out the door 4 work...Good but not instantly catchy, not nec. a negative. I'll have to listen 2 it again 2nite and pay attention to the words...Not that instant catchy pop song but obviously that's not what George was going 4. When he wants a catchy "pop" song" he can still do it...Gotta run off and serve my country...

I don´t know if I like it or not.

It's okay, not very memorable. It sorta sad to me and doesn't make me want to listen to it again yet, I don't mind if I do.

He is, isn't he. Which is sometimes why I don't listen to the songs I love by him the most.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

The lyrics are difficult to decipher. The melody, however, is majestic.

December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas)
written by George Michael & David Austin

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
May your every New Year dream come true

Sweet December song
The melody that saved me
On those less than silent nights
When snow would fall upon my bed
White sugar from Jesus
And take me to the day
She could always smile
The Virgin Child would always show the way
Just to save me
(Just to save me)

There was always Christmas time
To wipe the year away
I guess that morning they’d decided
That the war would have to wait

There was always Christmas time
Jesus came to stay
I could believe in peace on Earth
And I could watch TV all day
So I dreamed of Christmas

Maybe since you’ve gone
I went a little crazy
God knows they can see
(the child)
But the snow that falls upon my bed
That loving I needed
Falls every single day
For each and every child
The Virgin smiles for all to see
But you kept her from me

There was always Christmas time
To wipe the year away
I guess that morning they’d decided
That the war would have to wait

There was always Christmas time
Jesus came to stay
I could believe in peace on Earth
And I could watch TV all day
And so I dreamed of Christmas
Yes, I dreamed like you

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
May your every New Year dream come true
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

so is this song basically about the death of his mother? And how nice it was when she was still alive, and what he could do as a child (watch TV all day?)
I like that line, "On those less than silent nights"... it's about totally loneliness, right?

This song is a grower,I think if we all will hear it over&over these days
we''ll really like it,maybe a bit 2 short (?).

2bad I hate songs wich feature the name Jesus..I can;t help it.
It almost ruined Holy River 4 me (don't like the title either).

The only Jesus-song I like is the one from Genisis lol

Yes, this song def is a grower!!!

Now I think it's the best GM song since 2006!

But I doubt you'll hear it on the radio often.

nah, the production is totally different. One thing is very intersting. Each of his albums sound completely different in terms of production.
Only Make It Big and the Final album songs sound similiar

corny? I think this song is not corny at all! He didn't repeat Last Christmas, i mean, this is the first xmas song I know about depression and loss. And the line "I could believe in peace on earth" is only a child's (when he was a kid) thought.

The beginning and ending is a sample from an 1957 record, I read. Don't know the title of that song.

Yeah, it's kindof vintage-esque to do that.. nostalgic maybe...i almost spit my drink out when i first heard the intro, but it's actually a beautiful song.

when i first heard the song on youtube, I thought it would be fake because of that intro! I'm actually disapointed it's just a sample because I thought GM managed to get this vintage sound perfectly. He surely knows all this old stuff (remember Songs Of The Old Century).
