John Lennon's "Instant Karma"

I've always loved this John Lennon song, words so true.

Instant Karma - John Lennon

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
Its up to you, yeah you

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin at fools like me
Who in the hell do you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Everyone come on

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Everyone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're everywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

It's my favorite non-album single by him. And I wonder how many people realise it's "All You Need Is Love"'s younger brother? (Music-wise)

(bolded part) Aaahh...now that I think of it, that does makes sense. Instant Karma sure reflects this current political climate. I also love "Imagine". Such beautiful songs John left behind.

well, I mean because of the chord change. That's why the melody is almost the same as well.

Prince's Around The World In A Day and Raspberry Beret I believe was so BEATLESQUE, however, I think at that time he was more like PAUL MC CARTNEY then JOHN. John was THE REBEL.... biggrin John doing IMAGINE was LEGENDARY and LUCY In THe SKY WITh DIAMONDS and WHATEVER GETS YOU THROUGH THE NIGHT. Double Fantasy was BREATHTAKING. I actually was AWESTRUCK seeing his son SEAN at a CENTRAL PARK CONCERT this year. HE looks JUST like JOHN and he turned my way and I saw him and I didn't SCREAM....I just smiled and so did he and it was COOL. He's so HANDSOME and GORGEOUS and looks JUST LIKE JOHN. I was gonna DIE from HAPPINESS>.. biggrin I wish he would do some MUSIC...

"Instant Karma" = fanstatic song!

John Lennon is one of those artists, to me, that it is impossible to pick out a favorite because his music catalog is just filled with outstanding musical pieces of art. His music never grows old or boring, and the political statements he made in his songs continue to fit today's society. Truly an amazing artist.

I agree. John's music fit the political/social issues of his era and even those of today, just like many musicians of his time. It is also sad that he was murdered by an obsessed fan, who claimed he was angry because he didn't like the way John changed his music or something like that, from what I've read years ago in an article, Very sad. How pathetic and sick was that a reason to use to harm an artist? Very sick indeed.

I think some fans get way too crazy over the direction an artist may decide to take his/her music, especially those that express extreme, and out-of-the-ordinary, over-the-top anger. It seems those types of fans need to back away and just move on when it gets to that point for them.
