Faith actually did have six though not in the US:
"I Want Your Sex" hit number-one on the United World Chart I think "Kissing a Fool" was #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in the US.

Good year for music. It was a huge year for both artist. Michael Jackson's long awaited follow to Thriller and George Michael's first solo album were both hugely anticipated. Faith was HOT, but Michael Jackson was still on top of his game, the Bad tour was amazing, and although Bad did not sell the same numbers as Thriller (what has?), Michael Jackson fever was in full effect. My vote goes to Michael Jackson for 1988. sidebar: I rarely play the Bad cd today, but George Michael's faith is always in my rotation. I'd say it was a tie. Both of these guys RULED 1988.
Around this time,I remember feeling really bad for Prince. While Michael and George were getting all the attention and airplay,Prince was struggling with a poor selling album ('Lovesexy') and a tour that wasn't selling out in many cities.

Not even in 1988? The thing is, an answer to this question always is subjective. If you ask me who was bigger until 2003: Robbie Williams or Justin Timberlake I'd clearly vote for Robbie. Someone else, who didn't care for the slightest would say the same as you kenlacam.

I've spoken to timmy for years on other message boards and he happened to be 2 years younger than me at the time without me realizing his b'day was coming up, so in the back of my head he was always 2 years younger though I now know I was wrong

No, not even the greatest MJ album to me, not even the 3rd best MJ album... but I just thought I'd throw a fact in here that's relevant to the title of the thread! speeddemon said: MJ is ranked among the top 20 best selling album artists of the year in the US without realising anything, probably higher on a worldwide level. That's superstar status to me.
Now, if you mean active superstar, I agree with you.But don't spoil the word Superstar to the one who probably is most synonymous with. There have never been any bigger superstar than Michael Jackson and there certainly never will be. / Honestly, is album sales the only argument MJ fans can bring in? Yes, he released the 25th anniversary edition of the best selling album of all time and also yet another compilation that features like half of the mentioned album, of course he still sells well. ABBA sold more than MJ in 2008 yet they didn't release anything new since 1982 and no new compilations this year, does it make them huge superstars as of today as well? I understand that a fan will most likely say that their idol is the best etc, but why ALWAYS pretend MJ is the only superstar and nobody every came close to him? In the 80s he was the biggest superstar but since then Madonna definitely eclipsed his superstar status. The only way MJ gets in the public's mind nowadays is a bad paparazzi pic or rumours about a disease.
