Not really.

I disagree. I think during the Off the Wall/Thriller era, MJ MOST definitely was a sex symbol. I myself was kissin' my television during Motown 25. kiss2 Of course, I was in 3rd grade, but still. lol

Although this is off topic as it's about whether he was a sex symbol back in the day, but commenting on what people are talking about now I'm a drifting casual/softcore fan (currently in a casual fan mode) and I find him to be really good looking up untill 2000. The only difference between 90's Michael and late 80's Michael was skin colour and I don't find pale skin repulsive so I still thought he looked great in the 90's. But somewhere around 2000 something changed about his face. Like it froze in a freaky position or something. He looked hideous. Around 2005 I noticed his face coming back to normal a little bit but his looks are still hit and miss to me these days. Looking at most of the photos from 2005 on he looks weird to me and I see where the general public are coming from, but when I see actual footage of him I do still see a sexiness about him and understand where the hardcores are coming from.

MJ is about the last person on the face of God's green earth that I EVER want to think of as a sex symbol. EVER.

Michael was never a sex icon, however during the late 70s to Thriller there was something quite sensual about him, I don't know whether it was to do with his voice, his dancing or what. All I know there was this effortless grace about him. He didn't try to be sexy and that was the beauty of him.

From the Bad era he just became plain old chessy, all that makeup and grab crotching was anything but sexy. It was like he was trying too hard to be something he wasn't.

heterosexual
razz

I am not quite sure about that lol I just feel up to Thriller there was something very spontaneous and graceful about him that gave him a kind of subtle sensuality more than anything else. Then from the Bad era onwards with a completely different face covered with makeup and grabbing his crotch every 5 seconds just made him look tacky and desperate. The more explicite he became the more tacky he looked.

I thought that around 2000 when he received the artist of the millenium award in Monaco, he looked hot as heck and much thicker. YouTube has the video. Handsome as well in the 90's and thicker. Then after 2000, don't know what happened, maybe too much makeup. I saw him in person in New York in the late 80's when he was in the subway doing a video. Bodyguards around, of course. He was very slim with a beautiful copper complexion, and nice hair.
