Was MJ considered a sex icon??

You know, like George Michael was in the late 80s?? Or was his behaviour too sweet? Was he just the guy nice girls could hold hands with?

You gotta forgive me question, I was nowhere near to be born when MJ was at his peak. He surely looked good, but he always had such an adrogyne approach??

I'm pretty sure one of those VH1 specials earlier this decade referred to him as one, during the j5 days when he was a kid...I found that a little odd but he was a teen idol.

Girls dug Jermaine and Jackie over MJ for looks. I think that changed as he grew older and he did become fanciable, but then the surgery took over, and he destroyed his looks.

Don't think he was ever seen as a sex symbol throughought his career, though the dove woman and folk like her would probably disagree.

Michael was seen as non-threatening, like a Jonas brother or something!

I think he was considered sexy by many (for a while at least), but never a sex symbol. His public image wasn't really about sex, it was all cute and innocent and all that. Whatever sexiness he had was considered a side effect, I think, not the main event.

He sure was hot, though. drooling

I think MJ became a sex icon during the Bad era,
where his androgenous look reached its peak.

after that, he wasn't.

That's funny I would have guessed he ended being a sex icon during that time, well at least for the general public?! I mean, what must fathers told to their MJ-loving daughters in 1987??

He was never known as a sex icon, his brothers held that title.

He was a teen idol, esp during thriller.

No, it's because he really has never been sexy, and his image has never been a sexual one.

I agree. Randy was the fine Jackson brother back in the day. I liked Michael, but I never had a crush on him and never thought of him as sexy.

For his female fans he was the sexiest man alive!
And in the 80s he was the megastar with the most fan clubs aka fans in the world.

Agreed, and he doesn't have to try so hard because it is something about him that wins you over that a true sex symbol would die for.

He was never considered "Sexy". Even at the top of his fame (1983 - 1987) every girl that had a MJ Button or Luchbox also knew that he was wearing tons of make-up and somtimes lipstick.

I remember when the video for "The way You make me feel" had everybody trippin' because it looked like he might actually kiss a girl (Shock!).

MJ has always been asexual, he wanted to be kiddy friendly.
He wanted to appeal to prepubescent girls and boys. Like Barney and “tickle-me-elmo”
That is why he is why he is still more well known by kids than almost any other pop star.
