This was the song that was produced by Barry Manilow, wasn't it? I often sit and think about what would have happened had she lived. There would be no Anita Baker or Jill Scott. Such a loss. [Edited 12/22/08 17:56pm] Sure was. Yeah, Phyllis paved the way for Anita & Jill no doubt. She also paved the way for Toni Braxton in a vocal sense too. I mean you can hear her influence in so many vocals yet she seldom gets mentioned. She definitely was an "unsung" hero.

I'm such a wimp. I haven't played this album in so long I barely remember it. I find it hard listening to the music of those who have passed on when I really dug them. The title alone makes me a little melancholy. this album and the one with I Can't Stand This Living All Alone are tough to listen to. But I always feel happy when I hear You Know How to Love Me. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I love to hear all of her music. How about that "Living Inside Your Love" tho? I heard that tonight on YouTube and danced in my chair.

Yeah,it's sometimes hard for me to listen to her music. So much sadness and heartbreak "Old Friend" especially sounds really sad to me. Speaking of, I saw footage of Phyllis trying to sing the song after mentioning Linda Creed, the songwriter behind it, and she was just crying her eyes while singing her heart out. It was hard to watch.

Maybe one of you can post it but I don't wanna.

My mom was sad during the whole Unsung special. She LOVES Phyliss "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Yep. That was Clive Davis' idea to introduce her to the mainstream audience,,,,but it was a failed attempt. Such a shame though because its a beautiful ballad

Makes me wonder what would have happened had she and Clive had gotten along. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I really like the album with I Can't Stand This Living All Alone too, but it makes me depressed if I listen to it. It's just so sad and you can hear the emotional pain she was in during that time in her life.

Yeah,Clive and Phyllis didn't really get along.I think he wanted to mold her into something she was not and Phyllis was very stubborn.

Clive didn't know what to do with Phyllis. When he rejected her first choice (Barry Manilow),she suggested Quincy Jones but Clive rejected that idea too Can you imagine what Quincy Jones could have done with Phyllis?! It might have been her biggest album yet.

He rehired Norman Connors to work with her again when she didn't want to (even Norman knew that, lol).

Clive's biggest mistake was pairing Phyllis with a great producer (Narada Michael Walden) but accepting a crap song from him ("Riding The Tiger") It was only a few months earlier when Narada gave Angela Bofill the excellent, superior "Too Tough".I know he could have created something better for Phyllis,if Clive had demanded it.

Yeah,he didn't want her to do "Sophisticated Ladies".He told her that it would flop, but it actually became a successful show.I think he didn't like the fact that he couldn't control Phyllis. .
