ECHOES OF AN ERA... any fans here? recorded in only 2 days I consider this to be a classic and a much slept on gem I rarely hear talk about it unless I bring it up how many of the orgers own & love this jazz album? you had Lenny White, Stanley Clarke Chick Corea, you had Freddie Hubard and Joe Henderson... not to mention CHAKA KHAN on the vocals.. like WOW! @Aisha - back in '03 or '04 when I went up to DC to see Monte & nem... he & I were on a vinyl dig and when I stumbled upon this he damn near pushed me out of the way to get it because he had just stumbled upon this: those albums came out the same year (1982) I was just a baby & still singing "Beat It" "E-EEEEH... E-EEEEEH.." anyway, after doing much listening and research on these albums I can see NOW why he was so excited LOL... while I always loved Chaka I was still somewhat of a novice to her solo work at THAT particular time & space and I was only interested in completing my Prince & Rufus/Chaka collections those of you who enjoy share some of your favorites my favorite from the whole album is probably "I Mean You" also, those who don't have it and want it... I suggest you get the 2003 remaster, it includes an alternate take of "All of Me" and a hidden interview tagged on the end of "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" which Monte always loved that song and I never got the big deal, until just the other night did I hear the guy (in the interview) mention Chaka wrote lyrics to Thelonious Monk's "I Mean You" or did the song always have lyrics? I'm not real sharp on jazz I know melodies most of the time but if they have real lyrics, I don't know it... "I Mean You" being a prime example... because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

I never heard that particular album but I know that, back then,Chaka was really interested in making jazz recordings. If she had her way,she would have done one R&B album and one jazz album every year.

yeah, the main reason for the split up of RUFUS (besides ego clashing & stuff) was that Chaka wanted to do jazz... you should really hear this album may take a while to grow on you but it's a must have for any Chakaholic because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

81-82 was the MOST productive period in CK's career
So far, she released: 1. A Jazz album. 2. A reunion album. 3. A live album 4. 2 studio albums She was in DEMAND. As for EOAE, for a long time I stopped the album when "Spring(which happens to be the last track) comes. Its so painfully emotional, its one of those songs I can't bear to listen to. Chri$, I bet your "melancholy" playlist is long
