Madonna forks over $92 million for divorce settlement from Guy Ritchie

Madonna is a little less materially wealthy today after she settled her divorce for up to $92 million.

The superstar's spokeswoman said she has agreed to give Guy Ritchie the huge lump sum to end their eight-year marriage.

The figure includes the value of the couple's country home Ashcombe in western England, said Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg.

"It's one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce settlement," Rosenberg said on Monday.

A London court last month quietly granted the couple a preliminary divorce order while they work out the details of their split.

Ritchie, 40, who is worth an estimated $45 million before the deal, had said he didn't want a slice of Madge's reported $450 million treasure trove.

While the financial component of the settlement is now done, the warring couple has yet to finalize custodial arrangements for the couple's children.

The couple has agreed to share custody of their sons, Rocco, 8, and David, 3, who was adopted from Malawi.

Madonna's daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship will live with her in New York.

Ritchie and Madonna, 50, have traded barbs in recent weeks, with the singer suggesting her soon-to-be ex was an "emotional retard."

A representative for Ritchie declined to comment on the reported settlement.

The deal will likely outstrip the $60 million Sir Paul McCartney agreed to pay his ex-wife Heather Mills in their divorce.

It will probably rank fourth on the all-time list of celeb divorce payouts, behind the $150 million Michael Jordan and Neil Diamond paid to end their marriages and Steven Spielberg's $100 million ticket to Splitsville from ex-wife Amy Irving.

Keep in mind that THE only way a man can get half (or more) of the money from a woman in a divorce settlement is if it has been proven that it was the woman at fault for cheating on her husband.

In Madonna's case, she was messing around with A-Rod! I hope the $92 million was worth it.
disbelief lol

rolleyes This is NOT true. BOTH spouses are typically entitled to half of the assets earned DURING the marriage with or without a prenup, if community property laws apply, regardless of who is at fault. Gender has nothing to do with it. I think this is also how it's done in the UK as I don't think they allow prenups. The only reason SHE's paying is because she brought home MOST of the bacon during the last 10 years. This sucks but I guess it's no different than when an athlete's wife gets half of his money even though she di'int dribble nary a ball. Ask MJ about that shit. lol

Fair enough if results varies in the UK. But here in the USA, it's always the man that ends up losing half (or far worse) in a typical divorce settlement. The only time that the woman ends up losing half (or far worse) is if it's proven and/or confirm that the woman is at fault for the failed marriage instead of the man.

And with all due respect, $92 million is more like a 2/3 lost than a 1/2. Madonna lost too much money. And Guy has made more money from this divorce than he ever made in his whole career as a filmmaker.

I don't know what state you live in but most states are no fault which means that infidelity is not a factor when deciding the divorce settlement. AND I know several women who made most of the money and had to pony up to their ex-husbands. So, again, gender doesn't factor into the decision regardless who the primary breadwinner is. As for Madonna and Guy, I'm SURE she made more than $200 million in the last 10 years so even with this large settlement, she prolly paid him LESS than half of what she earned during the marriage.

Depends on what kind of deal he had with the studios he was working with, how much he got from production, and what he got from the back end and what investments he's made in the last 10 years. Keep in mind he owns shit all over London too...restaurants, pubs, ect. The average small sized production office for still photography grosses about a million a year, a fashion photographer on the level of Walter Chin a million, Patrick Demarchlier maybe 2 million...once you get into the moving image part of things the budgets sort of jump into the stratosphere, particular for the folks at the top of the heap, like the studio heads, the directors, and the actors, etc. Also, if you look at his worth in GBP as opposed to USD, it's only about 29 Million Pounds, which is comfortably rich, but not wealthy by any means compared to British high rollers and the cost of living in England. What we sit and have our jaws drop to the floor for, a lot of wealthy Brits look at his worth sort of like chump change...

...all I know is I that I have a heart attack even just to buy a damn lollypop in London...it's so darned expensive ... dead...and I go there with Euros bawl

I think there are some states where it's a 50/50 division, and then some states where the burden lies with the primary breadwinner. Sherri on "The View" mentions on the show regularly that she pays alimony, too nod. I saw a HILARIOUS stand-up from Mo'nique...when she had her first divorce she went to court thinking all the things her husband did to her would have her leave him in the dust, but she said the judge shocked the hell out of her when he said she would be responsible for paying $15,000 alimony per month eek lol eek

In California state law (I'm not from there BTW, thank goodness!), the man is always losing half of whatever he has, regardless if he's rich OR poor. And that is before he is force to pay child support if there is children involved.

In Louisiana state law (where I'm from BTW), it's support to be a 50/50 split. But the man ends up losing more than half because of (once again.....:disbelief) child support payments if there is children involved.

Since my current residence is in Arkansas, I'll need to check out their crappy state laws. But to my understanding based on other people's accounts, the divorce settlement rulings aren't always great neither.

My problem with what you're saying is:

1. You're saying this ONLY happens to "men" which is NOT true in ANY state.

2. You're saying that one person has to "lose" half of what they earned when in the eyes of the law, regardless of whom the breadwinner is the assets belong to BOTH spouses. Again, if a woman makes most of the money and a couple gets divorced HER earnings are viewed as belonging to both. Same as when a man makes the money and the wife stays at home or earns less.

Gender, who brings in more, or infidelity has absolutely nothing to do with the disposition of assets during a divorce. cool

Both parties lose in a divorce financially and emotionally, plus children are involved. I truly believe that the feminist movement played a part in divorce laws, and reversal roles. I must say this for it is the God's truth. Men were originally the breadwinners, and head of the house, while women stayed home and raised the kids. The court system is looking at it like this: You want equal pay, equal labor as the man, we're going to treat you like one. Independent woman, pay up. You're the man of the house, and make more, pay up. Then you have the court system who are locking men up for child support, and suspend their license. The system is not playing with anyone. Since they see Madonna as the 'man' and breadwinner, she's gotta pay up, though Ritchie turned it down.

I would have made a potato sammitch for dinner. But i ran out of potatoes. As my potato void rained upon my head i realized that i had a couple handfuls of baby yams resting in the corner of my kitchen counter. So i washed them up and placed them in a pyrex dish. Added some butter and some maple syrup because to my dismay i had run out of brown sugar. Then I tossed in some jamacian all-spice hoping it will set the flavor right. POOPED it into the oven and said a little prayer that they come out nice.

I didn't say "only". I said "always". Historically, it has been the ex-husbands on the losing end of the settlements most of the time (Michael Jordan being the biggest example here in the USA with losing $115 million + child support payments!). But I'm also aware that the ex-wives can lose a lot as well (Joan Collins comes to mind) but it isn't no where as often.

If you don't have an ounce or grain of sugar in your tank, thank Him. If your woman is not swapping spit with Madonna, thank Him because that was the purpose of the feminist movement and role reversal, to break the structure and turn you out, if you let them. By all means, research it. That's it.
