Donna Summer Once Upon A Time album Who else is in love with this? So ahead of it's time. Donna at her peak and I love albums that tell stories track by track like this one. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

I have a love/hate relationship with this album
I love the concept of it (basically,Cinderella looking for true love in the carefree disco era) and there are many impressive moments here: "Now I Need You","Working The Midnight Shift","I Love You",the ballads "A Man Like You" and "Sweet Romance"."Dance Into My Life" could have been a single. But what's up with her vocals throughout? On Side 1,she's hardly singing at all.On the title track, she sounds like Glenda the Good Witch. She's sleepwalking through these songs. You don't really hear the full power of her voice until you get to Side 3.It's kinda frustrating. It's an interesting album,to be sure, but it always leaves me a little unsatisfied.

One great thing about this album,though....it's a perfect showcase for producer Giorgio Moroder. He comes up with some truly interesting sound textures.Listen to the last minute of "Now I Need You" and the first minute of the next song "Working The Midnight Shift"....I love this part! It sounds downright scary....like a bad acid trip, lol.

These are my Top 5 Donna Summer albums...
1) Bad Girls (her masterpiece) 2) I Remember Yesterday (the best of her "concept albums") 3) Donna Summer (the Quincy Jones-produced album) 4) Four Seasons of Love (despite the weak vocals throughout, this is one of the best disco albums ever) 5) The Wanderer I wanted to add "Live And More" to my list but decided to stick with studio albums only.

I think of all her concept albums - and she's got a few - this one works best for me.

Yeah I like the 'Donna Summer' album alot, even though many fans don't appreciate it as much as I do Many of them see it as a "Quincy Jones album" but I think it's her most satisfying album of the 80s.
