Well, as a former DC cat, all I can say is real Go-Go is the BOMB, but it kind of died a while ago, like hip-hop, r&b, and house. The old-school Go-Go of Trouble Funk was off the hook. Go-Go is simply another form of Funk... just stripped down, and with heavy focus on the drums, percussion and bass guitar. I always thought of "Holy Ghost" by the BarKays as the first sign of Go-Go flavour, along with Chuck Brown, of course. "He's a musician's musician..." |
