So which is the better album according to the org?

I say Ray of Light

And while I cannot stand Janet post VR, I think it's a great album but Ray of Light is better

Velvet Rope hands down

Ray of Light by far. It's Madonna's greatest album to my ears. OTOH, Velvet Rope is too long and more than a little overrated IMO.

Even though I picked Ray Of Light, Velvet Rope the song is better than anything on it

I love them both, but Ray Of Light made a much bigger impact on me.

I love both. ROL wins for me, though. While TVR is Janet's last great album, and probably her most interesting, it's where a lot of the problems with her recent output started to creep in.

Velvet Rope IS great too, her last great album but it's too long and has more filler than ROL

Velvet Rope, for sure.

I have to watch myself around that album though, it ain't tame.

wow the two albums are nothing alike to me but are both great in their own way

as a whole, I prefer VR and it's one of those albums that encouraged me to learn about myself and look at things.

Ray of Light however has a lot of musical risks more than VR, and made me go "madonna would have never done a song sounding like that" quite a bit.

Both great CDs in their own rights...but Ray of Light...hands down.

As much as I like Velvet Rope, I tend to think that it's overrated by fans. It's overlong and bloated, not to mention it's where her interludes became tedious.

Ray of Light is damn near perfect, maybe not up to Like a Prayer standards, but pretty close. 'Drowned World (Substitute for Love)' is about as near to perfection as you can get.

This has to be a joke.

The crux of the paper wasn't me gushing like a fanboy over TVR or anything like that. Its impetus revolved around themes of acceptance, discrimination and overcoming obstacles.

In my freshman university English seminar we had to write an essay about a song or film and I wrote a paper on Meshell Ndegeocello's "May This Be Love" [1999]. My professor even brought in a portable stereo and played the song in class the last day.
