Brandy Gets No Love

Predictions For Next Weeks Billboard Chart: (Hitsdailydouble)

THREE-WAY RACE FOR #1 NEXT WEEK

Britney, Taylor and Beyonce in Lead, Musiq Soulchild, Common, Brandy Will Debut

December 10, 2008

And three divas shall lead them into the holiday sales season.
With no new heavy hitters on tap for next week’s chart, it looks to be a three-way race for #1, based on one-day reports from retailers still standing, from a trio of female superstars.

Britney Spears’ Jive/ZLG album Circus (this week’s chart-topper), Taylor Swift’s Big Machine disc Fearless and Beyonce’s Columbia release I Am… Sasha Fierce will battle it out for the top spot on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50, all in the 175k range.

Atlantic’s Musiq Soulchild looks to be the top newcomer with an estimated total of 90-110k, followed by G.O.O.D. Music/Geffen’s Common (80-90k), Brandy’s first album for Epic (70-80k) and Capitol R&B heartthrob Avant (50-60k).

Releases still to come include A&M’s Keyshia Cole, Island’s Fall Out Boy, J/RMG’s Jamie Foxx and Jive/ZLG’s Anthony Hamilton.

Is it really only two weeks until Christmas?

The market was down 7% vs. last week, down 22% vs. the same week last year and still down 14% year to date. What are you waiting for? Start shopping, goddamnit.

Brandy could sing her ass off. She doesn't get the shine she deserves.sad

I never was a Brandy fan, I always felt that Monica had the better, stronger voice, but never got the props she deserved, yet Brandy, with her "featherweight" voice was winning Soul Train music awards left and right. disbelief

She's not getting any props because she's washed up. I'm not trying to down her or be purposely harsh, but its just the truth.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Brandy's alright but I haven't really been interested in about 3 or 4 years. Afrodisiac had some good cuts but I prefer Full Moon and Never Say Never. I haven't heard much from or about this new disc and what I did hear didn't move me. I'm curious to see what the future holds for her.

No surprise there as this is her first album in 4 years.

For every artist you have to just grin and bare it. If you are going to have a career, then deal with NOT being the seller that you were a decade ago, just let it go, and concentrate on just doing a good record and doing what you wanna do, that is what an artist is. Im not into Brandy mainly because she just comes from that decade when alot of things died, the 90's killed alot, it killed or at least slowed down rock n roll, and RB became this "blueprint" the male groups all had that one guy that sang well, one fat guy, and the one guy that had no shirt. The RB male singers, never had a shirt on, and the RB females for the most part followed the blueprint of, being plain on the first record and then "sexinf" it up on the next release. And ALL of them decided they had to have a rap remix, either Puffy, or Mase or Missy you name it, it was like the stake through the fucking heart of what once was a LIVE genre. And of course the biggest 90's downfall, what we all use to judge good and bad, Soundscan, the biggest crock of shit since payola.

I'm just the opposite on this. Monica's first album was cool minus the PMS
song as well as her second but she has been on a steady decline since. Her last two albums were garbage to me. Brandy probably always got the props because she
was always level headed and projected a wholesome image early in her career. I wouldn't rush out and buy her cd but i can tolerate her compared to a lot of these manufactured artists out now.

you know I'm afraid for the future of music. How will artist continue to support their careers? No one is supporting live shows unless you are at the top of the food chain. It's really sad sad

Maybe she should return to acting? She had a successful sitcom at one time.

Why would she return to acting? Basically no one is successful in the music business these days. Are they all going to return to acting? If her mandate is to be a recording artist, then I'm sure selling 3 million copies is not her only goal.

She does plan to do more acting and implied television is not out of the picture.

I did get to listen to part of the album and there are some good songs. I like her and Rodney together but I wouldn't mind a bit of a breakout from the sound they have.

Why not? It's something she does well and since her music career isn't working out,she at least has something to fall back on.

hmmm that's not exactly true, but I get your point.

I'm just saying that, unlike other recording artists who are flopping, she has other options.

I think returning to acting is a good idea...

Don't really like her music, but still kinda enjoy seeing her...

Well we can say that she is a way better actress than Beyonce.

Brandy gets love from me! I haven't gotten the album, yet, but I'm going to pick it up Saturday.

The lead single wasn't exciting enough. In fact, the album lacks excitement in general (I heard it when it leaked).

But, I'm buying it because I love her voice. Musically she should have stayed with the edgier sound, though.
