I agree...well except for Donny's original version of "This Christmas" (shake a hand, shake a hand, y'all), Marvin's "I Wanna Come Home for Christmas" and Stevie's "Someday at Christmas". And God, if I hear one more "chesnuts roasting on an open fire..." pissed

Yeah I'm Scrooge this year. BAH HUMBUG! lol

I love Christmas music -- especially stuff from the 30s and 40s ... It really evokes a special but still relative sense of that particular time. That said, if hear any more joke versions of well-worn Christmas songs, I just might go Scrooge. I heard the McKenzie Bros' "The 12 Days of Christmas " today, for instance, and almost had a truly visceral reaction.

Anxiety

the kind of christmas music i enjoy is the kind of stuff that makes other people uncomfortable when i play it around them. redface

what can i tell you? in my mind, "a john waters christmas" and kiki & herb's holiday album are cherished traditions! thumbs up!

i'm more or less numb to all the rest of the xmas music in the world, though. i've heard it all so much, gotten annoyed by it so much, liked it then burnt out on it so much, that it just sounds like the hum of a festive window fan to me anymore. shrug

Yanno, it's a lot of songs I don't want to hear
every year

i would probably enjoy certain ones more if I just didn't pay attention to them last year

Oh. I hate that one too. I think it's the synth that sounds like it's burping which does it for me.

I think my most-hated Christmas song is that Band Aid dirge...

The lyrics are so patronising. The melody is a rip-off of the middle-eight from the 1980s arrangement of the Doctor Who theme tune. The production is so plastic. The video is so smug. It literally makes me tense. Bono makes me tense.

This. I love Christmas and at least like the vast majority of Christmas songs, but this one is really in a league of its own. So awful!

Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time
and
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

I think it's time to listen to Another Lonely Christmas before I get one of these songs stuck in my head.

My god! omfg How could you say that you hate that song? It just isn't Christmas without that song playing on the radio. I bet you're one of those evil Muslim terrorist people who's trying to make everyone marry into a gay marriage and force 5 year olds into sex education classes, all while screaming "Death to the evil Satan America! Happy Holidays!" mad pissed demon

Just kidding. giggle

I loved Mariah's song just because she was singing it, but I'm actually surprised at how incredibly well it has held up as a classic Christmas tune. But like TotalAlisa said, they do play it to death.

I also love the original "Christmas Song" as performed by Nat King Cole, but since most artists aren't creative enough to come up with their own holiday tunes, they feel the need to cover the song and do a horrible rendition of it, which becomes very annoying. mad I'm also sick of "White Christmas", as it is played to death, and I think snow is highly overrated.

Besides Mariah's Christmas song, my two favorite songs are Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" and John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)". But I also remember some comedy show doing a spoof of the Christmas song which went like this:

"Chipmunks roasting on a open fire
Frostbite nipping at your nose..."

You name it. There are a few newer ones that I like that I never hear on the radio. Weezer, the Kinks, No Doubt all have decent xmas songs that I only found by looking.

I can't stand most Christmas songs. But special loathing is reserved for this one version of Jingle Bells that features a female voice interjecting off-key! "I like to sleigh ride, I like to sleigh ride."

I don't know who or what is responsible for that crap but they need to be slapped.
"A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
