Its really unfair to compare the two especially with all what whitney went through, compare both on their primes , anyone with a rational mind would say that Whitney kicked mariah 'a ass big time, Its no contest, Whitney was a monster on stage. MICHAEL JACKSON

I know the drugs ruined Whitney's voice. But, WTF happened to Mariah's voice? Was she a smoker or on drugs, too??...I'm clueless how a singer just loses there ability to sing. I think Mariah used to smoke but no longer. I do think she tries to take care of what's left of her voice because she's had nodules for years and as she matures it gets worse. Surgery was recommended but she doesn't want to go that route. When Julie Andrews had her nodules removed the doctors screwed up and she lost her voice for two or three years. i guess drinking alcohol everyday and party all the time, and stay up late is taking good care. Whitney messed hers up with drugs and yelling at bobby brown I like mariah's voice for the range and whitneys for the tone. Mariah's voice annoys me after a while she does sound more whinny and i think people consider that a range but it sounds like a lil kid crying. Whitney sometimes sound likes she is hollering at certain points. But her voice is so powerful, its easier to listen to. Both voices now aren't that great and if either one came out today with thier voices sound the way it does today, NONE of them would be considered the best singers in the world. Whitney of course! Mariah is an amazing singer no doubt and has more range than Whitney, but Whitney's voice is much more powerful or is used to be at least. Sure Mariah can do the whistle note thing which is one thing she has over Whitney, but overall her voice lacks power , especially when compared to Whitney. I don't know about now, but back in the day Whitney would win in a blow out and could sing cirlces around Mariah. Few artists are diligent about vocal care cause its damn near borderline compulsive behavior. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Whitney, easily.
Something about her was much more mesmerizing and captivating than anytime Mariah has been on a stage. Plus Whitney had a knack for switching up her melodies and arrangements at times. That dog whistle was fascinating when "Emotions" came out but it hasn't impressed me since. I applaud Whitney at least for not resorting to pre-recorded backing tracks to cover up her vocal deterioration as well.

This is a good throwback compasison. Pre crack Whitney had a stronger voice than Mariah. Yes, Mariah can hit Minnie Ripperton notes (as she does in every song she has ever recorded), but Whitney's pipes (no pun intended) had more power. Whitney is the better singer.....IN THE STUDIO!
Bodyguard soundtrack was incredible, but she never (I repeat, NEVER!) was able to hit those notes live in concert or on any televised performance. Mariah has atleast had some good performances over the years and some piss poor ones too. I sadly have to give it to Mariah because she was able to pull off some clean performances that rival what you hear on the cd. Whitney just never sounds as good as the CD and that's saying something. That You Tube clip was a good performance of that song. The CD version is better and on key. Quite a few times she goes lower during the song and falls back on riffing all over the place to cover up not hiting the notes (still better than beyonce live who only plays with notes and doesn't hit or hold them).
Whitney's usually a lot worse, so I consider that a very good performance. I loved the staging and the video montage. Very well done and fitting her diva status. [ZUNECARD]MikeChristopher[/ZUNECARD]

I've always preferred Whitney's voice - the tone, the way she uses it...
& Mariah hasn't sung live (on tv anyway) in years, so who the hell knows what her voice sounds like anymore? She's always had a puppet quality about her, like she's not singing from her soul. She's all nails & angles & stupid dresses, whereas Whitney seemed capable of actually feeling what she was singing.
