This is what the moderator of the Debarge group I go to said:

If you are considering writing to El, hold off for just a bit. El's new address/location has not yet been established and he's close to being transferred from the current facility to another one. It takes approximately a week for letters/mail to get to him where he's at currently. This transition may happen in a short period of time, and your letters and/or mail will not reach him and will be returned to you. So to avoid that, not alarm or cause disappointment it may be wise to wait for a bit. My suggestion would be after the New Year...to give time for the process to take it's course.

El had good solo stuff out and Chico is still going. And who cares if Debarge has been around in 20 years. Good music is good music.

This is the general info on the institution for all who are interested in contacting El Debarge:

California State Prison, Los Angeles County
44750 60th St W
Lancaster, CA 93536
Phone: (661) 729-2000

Thanks!

I may have to write ol' El..send him some encouragement...Tell him to come SAVE ME from this stuff they're trying to pass off as music these days.

I really gave up on "black music" altogether. My child couldn't name ONE R&B song made after like 85 or so. In fact, we were just sangin' the hell out of "I Like It". He owns Thriller, Barry White, a bunch of rock CDs, and compilations CDs of 80s hits. We youtube music from the late 70s and 80s nearly every weekend.

HELP US, EL!

Only Thriller? You better pick up Off The Wall! lol

I know all about Off the Wall, but perhaps I should introduce my son to it. He happens to think Thriller is the greatest album of all times. I may have to agree.

Now in this interview, El claims he was arrested simply for not showing up for meetings with the probation officer. He didn't mention having crack cocaine found on him. In fact, throughout this interview he thanks the Lord Almighty that he's freeeee from drugs.

A DeBarge lying during an interview by claiming to be drug free? Say it ain't so. wink

I'm not trying to clown them because I know that's an evil monkey to get off your back and the hardest uphill battle imaginable. I want them to be clean, sober, and prosperous. I NEED for them to come back and make REAL music--the kind I can allow my child to listen to. BUT, if they don't stop lying and just be REAL for once, then maybe they'll experience true healing.

Is it painful because it was overplayed? That would be the only reason I could see how someone could despise it. It is a very catchy pop tune. It takes you back to the mid-80s where we got TONS of music just like that.

I do hate that they will be mostly known for that song, when they released so many good songs. Hell, some of them went on to become hip-hop and r&b classics (A Dream and Time Will Reveal have been sampled to death).

Slide from El is one of my favorite Jermaine Dupri songs. El delivers a great performance and the production is excellent. I hope El can come up with some more funky stuff while locked up.

What songs sampled Time Will Reveal?
I don't like that song by them either, but Rhythm is the worse. The reasons I don't like it are legion, but the number reason is that it is not a standard Debarge tune-you can tell it is totally manufactured

Blackstreet's "The Lord Is Real" samples "Time Will Reveal". It got a LOT of play on gospel stations and on some r&b stations.

I understand what you mean about the song being manufactured. Diane Warren was the queen of pop manufacturing for damn-near 20 years. Hell, even Milli Vanilli was a part of that product.
