You know, I love Sinead O'conner

I was one of those kids when the Lion and the Cobra was released who thought Sinead was the bees knees. Then when she released her rendition of 'Nothing Compares 2 U', even though I loved the album, got burned out on the overexposure that presented her and all the controversy that seemed to surround her. Her comments towards U2, and supposed comments towards Prince were also rather annoying to me. So I kind of only casually listened her material after that.

And admittedly, her albums have been all over the place--from self-indulgent collections of Irish/Celtic lullabies to flirtations with Pop she was hard to pin down.
She's also really prolific despite being out of the public eye.

So I've had a lot of time to go through some of her material , and I'm starting to really appreciate her again.
She's not the best vocalist out there, nor the best song writer. But every so often she completely nails a song. I felt like "Faith & Courage" was a near perfect pop album.
Her cover of "House of the Rising Sun" along with tracks with the lead singer of the Pogues are all worth a listen.

I'm not sure what it is about Sinead, but I'm really feeling her lately.

Feel so Different mushy

I love how she can take a simple tune, turn it into a chant, and totally blow you away with it.

it's my favorite sinead album to sing along to. i think after that album, i couldn't get with whatever she was doing.

i do kind of like theology, though. have you heard that one?

I'm trying to like theology but her voice just sounds so.... not into it.

Sort of like when Natalie Merchant left 10,000 maniacs and the degrading quality of her voice got exponentially more annoying as her star status rose. lol

I'm trying to appreciate it. It just seems... wordy.. a bit, flat at times.. And the beats on some of the songs don't sound like they actually match the songs themselves.

I'll have to give it another try. I originally didn't care for Universal Mother and Faith & Courage, but now love both those albums. boxed

i don't think theology is great, but i think it's her most listenable album in years. i like the melodies and the arrangements. you're right, her vocals aren't as dynamic as some of her older stuff, but it's kind of a quiet album. shrug

At times, I wondered if Wing could have pulled off a few of those songs.

I saw Sinead with Sly & Robbie in Glasgow a few years back touring her album "Throw Down Your Arms".

Sinead easily has the best voice I've ever heard live.

If anyone doesn't have the album "Throw Down Your Arms" I'd recommend getting it. It features covers of classic Roots Reggae by masters such as Burning Spear, Lee Perry, Bob Marley & more.....it's produced by and features Sly & Robbie on the riddim section and was recorded at Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica.

In an interview Robbie Shakespeare was quoted as saying "forget the originals...these ARE the originals baby!"

Faith and Courage was the last one I really liked (Hold Back the Night should've been a huge hit). The songs on Theology are nice enough when they pop up in a shuffle sequence--I just can't listen to them back to back.

Beautiful.

I'll always love her music, and her voice is one of my favorites.

Were this thread in the Prince forum, she'd have been raked over the coals and deemed a liar, "not worth raping" and attention-monger by now (as was the case the last time the above article was mentioned there).

Did she really even say those words though? lol

I would imagine she said something to that affect honestly though. She said alot of crazy shit back then.

But she's one of the most talented singer/songwriters of her generation.
Vastly underrated.
I love that she's her own person.

Probably my favorite from that album. I get all goosebumpy at the 1:30 mark when her voice goes high on the lyric, "how hard it is to be a woman in love with you."
