This is the one Chaka Khan album that I don't own.I heard several tracks from it and let's just say,it's not Chaka at her best wink The production is glossy and over-synthesized...very much like the previous album 'I Feel For You',although that album at least had a few great songs.

Wow. Can't beleive I missed this thread. Great, if uber dated album from an era of pop music which often sounds the most dated; USA mid 80's. Those synclaviers and drum machines back then wern't cheap and the production is very high tech in places, and quite frankly these high tech loaded albums or songs didn't last because it was too damn expensive to re-create them. Michael Jacksons "bad" is another example of this. All gloss and production, but what great and intricate production it was/ still is!

People who loved Scritti Politti should definately check out "love of a lifetime", which was written by the great David Gamson along with Green Gartside. You can even hear Gartside on backing vox. It was produced by them along with Arif Mardin.

I love some of the album. Its so overproduced and everything is layered to the nines and programmed to perfection. Synclavier heaven. I need to listen to it again as I would appreciate it even more now, but I remember loving most of it!

Favs I remember are "love of a lifetime" "my destiny" "it's you" etc...., but I love most of it really, though "earth to mickey" I remember being a bit goofy.

Absolute fav is the anthem "watching the world". Chaka gets buried in the production somewhat, as do Phil Collin's drums, but I love the track and production. Its perfect! It was written by Mr Mister who did their own version a few years later

Hell yeah. I love the 12 Inch version. It's one of my favorites from Chaka.

I love the "I Feel For You" album, especially the song "My Love Is Alive".

I don't care too much for that song. It sounds too late 80s.

That album is a little too slick and commercial for me.I never even liked the title track (Prince's original version is superior). My favorite Chaka Khan solo album is 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me'.

I must admit, as great as Chaka's (and Rufus') funk/soul outings are, this is still one of my favorites (even if it leans more to the pop/rock side). This sound was inevitable coming off of the I Feel For You album. They obviously wanted her to stay appealing to the pop market. Nonetheless, I was sold from the start with a single produced/written by one of my favorite groups at the time (Scritti Politti -- namely David Gamson and Green Gartside). Yeah, it's pop -- but it's some seriously funky pop. Earth To Mickey is definitely goofy, but it's some great electro-funk (as with everything at the time, the MPLS influence is obvious). The pop/rock efforts are great too -- Watching the World, The Other Side of the World, So Close. I think this is an under appreciated album -- simply because of its more commercial pop/rock sound.

Harlepolis

Tight Fit is THAT nail love

I love the way her voice blends with her bruh, Mark Stevens and Sandra St. Victor.

Too Close is nice too,,,,,if I'm not mistaken, she per4med it when she acted in a cameo in that 80s show Hunter.
