...Forever I that song! I followed the link in the youtube clip and read the following: Peter Frampton wasn't the first guitar player to put a plastic tube in his mouth to make his instrument talk. Pete Drake, a phenomenal steel guitar player, shows his stuff in the delightful video with an unusually moribund group of backup singers, musicians, and people who are sitting around in what appears to be a drug- or witchcraft-induced trance. When my wife saw this video she said, "This is where David Lynch got his ideas." I knew the song but hadn't seen the clip, and that very thought entered my head after seeing it!

I should strive to be more than a smart ass.
Seriously, this song sounds like it would have potential in the studio (I haven't heard the album yet), but Kanye simply cannot sing. Buy that I don't mean that he's not my cup of tea or that he's not a very good professional. He's simply atrocious as a singer by almost any human measure. Live, without Auto-Tune and great production, he'd be what they'd show the first few weeks of American Idol. But I don't doubt that he sounds great on the record and that I wouldn't be possibly blasting this song. That's not my argument. Not everyone can do everything, or should even try. Perhaps Kanye will become great over time with the culmination of his studio wizardry. But this shit is painful.

I just need to hear it without the "picked a guy out of the audience" vocals.
