Christina Aguilera vs. Beyonce -- AT LAST Christina (2000 and 2003)

Shit, she's been singing this song for a long time.

I like Christina's voice better with the song, but I wish she would restrain herself a bit

I really like the very first Christina´s performance that you posted in the red dress. I always thought that was really powerful. Her voice sounds amazing. I don´t mind her "oversinging" this one. I just love this performance. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

These two just don't know how to let a song breathe. Sometimes less is more. Damn you Whitney Houston! (for popularizing this gratuitous warbling).
I, personally, don't care for either woman's voice but if I had to choose I guess I'd go with Beyonce in this case. Overall, I like Christina's songs more.

Thank U so much 4 saying that. I think "At Last" has got 2 b the worst victim of the grandstanding treatment over the years. There's been countless offenders. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

I love both artist, but Christina shuts Beyonce down on this. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

I'm tired of bitches thinking they can scream this song out and call it art. The original was sung so beautifully and tenderly and with just the right amount of restraint. No melisma all over the damn place. That's how it needs to be done. [Edited 12/7/08 16:18pm]

[Edited 12/7/08 16:18pm] I've really grown to hate this song a little bit, because every bitch with half a voice thinks they need to own it by oversinging it. Maybe not hate it, but I cringe whenever I hear someone has done a new version of it, and try to avoid it.

She's always been a fan of Etta James Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.

Ordinarily Cyndi can do no wrong with me, but I try 2 ignore that whole album. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

Beyonce [Edited 12/6/08 19:22pm] [Edited 12/6/08 19:28pm] Christina's one was HIDEOUS! That girl has no clue. Beyonce sounded better, but she came across like a bad actress. In many ways these girls are amateurs. They are not in the song. They are too busy preening to actually get inside it. In the version below you can see that Cyndi is actually inside it. That's what puts her so far above most other celebrity singers. EDIT: Just watched the 2003 Christina version which was better than the 2000 one, but still overdone. Nicely filmed though, and the band were good. It showed off how good her chops are vocally and performance wise. I can think of far lower points in her career than that. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
