Post your favorite vintage film songs from the 1930s, '40s & '50s

I got the inspiration for this thread through chatting with obsessed in the "Listening To . . ." thread about vintage songs.

It made me stumble upon a really great song I used to adore from several years back entitled "When I'm With You" sung by Alice Faye in the 1936 Shirley Temple classic Poor Little Rich Girl.

When I'm With You / Alice Faye in the Shirley Temple classic "Poor Little Rich Girl" 」.1936

[Alice's song starts @ 1:42 of the clip and ends at 3:08]

Such a beautifully performed song. Wonderful lyrics.

The whole clip is great to watch. "You've Gotta Eat Your Spinach, Baby" is another favorite directly after it.

What a beautiful arrangement. music Really enjoy the instruments and feel of it. It has an ascending quality to it.

I love the feel of these types of songs, like yours and the one I posted.

Love that movie and song! You know I'm obsessed with her, right? lol Have been for years. For me, they didn't get any more gorgeous than her! Such a sad, sad life she had though.

Mara, that Alice Faye clip is great!

I know it seems generic by now to most, but I really love the theme to Love is a Many Splendored Thing (and most of Alfred Newman's work), and the fly-over shot of Hong Kong.

Another favorite, the score to the original The Day the Earth Stood Still by the late great Bernard Herrmann. The theremin sounds amazing on this. The user had removed the dialogue from this clip so you can hear the score by itself.

As much as I love hardcore Jimmy Cagney, the first time I saw him sing and dance his way through this clip from Yankee Doodle Dandy, I couldn't help but smile the whole time.

I'm cheating a bit on this next one, but it's Cagney (not singing) dancing in an earlier film, Something to Sing About

And just like thekidsgirl, I'm going to miss the 50s by 2 years, but this is a gem and it's almost 50 years old.
