101 reasons why Kanye West is the best "pop" artist of the last 4 Years Look i'm no fan...but after hearing his latest trax ...no pop artist can touch him...he's is the new king of pop...he has produced strongest body of work over the last 4 years without doubt..his videos and music are out of this world...only an pop artist that writes and plays his own music..i.e..prince, steve etc.. can touch him...there i've said it Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

Hate to say it, but I think he's the best artist to come out this decade. Have to disagree, im sure they will call Beyonce artist of this decade, but to me the artist that has taken the most chances, had the most work done, NOT CARED about where he charted or what he was nominated for, which is the testament of an artist, not caring what the public thinks, that would be Ryan Adams, hes working on another level that no one artist has done since the 70's. Beyonce is more or less manufactured music. At least kanye is doing his own thing and one of the most innovative artist out there at this moment

Kanye proved to me fairly recently that he is someone I can't deny. Case in point, he knows what's good with Mr Hudson & The Library and brought them on tour with him! I think that's admirable. Gotta give it to him. Especially he being an American artist and being familiar with Mr Hudson, that's just so forward-thinking and tells me a lot about this guy musically.
Anybody who listens to Mr Hudson & The Library and supports what they are doing is totally worthy of my respect. Plus, he slipped into my playlists through people like A-Trak and Kid Sis, plus Fools Gold. It was all natural for me.

Well I am a Kanye fan, and I would say that he is ONE of the best pop artists of the last 4 years. Hands down, the man takes musical risks...which has been coming out in his favor. Especially with his current album out, it has an acquired taste. I understand his artistic ability to be creative. The man is more of an artist than a musician in my opinon and many people don't understand his style. If you can't say nothing else about Kanye, you CAN say that you never hear him make the same type of song twice. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Agreed. He's a very talented guy, but his arrogance keeps me from standing behind him 100%. Sometimes he reminds me of the old saying, "Pretty on the outside, but ugly on the inside." Prince Rogers Nelson

Ummmm...how exactly does he take risks? I guess sampling Elton John is a "risk" in the hip-hop world

I like some of the stuff he´s produced for other people, like Common. If it wasn´t for his arrogance ( and very little to back it up) I would probably find him more likeable and listen to his music a bit more but his massive ego makes that a bit difficult. Sure, there are other artists with massive egos, Prince being a prime example but at least they have more talent. Most of Kanye´s early stuff is nothing but sped up classics with some loops and samples and high-pitched vocals of the original artists.
I dig some of his more recent stuff but can´t stand his attitude. And there are surely much more relevant and more artistic people out there. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I agree he's up there in the current crop we've got. Not sure if he's the best or who would/should be the best, but I do like some of his music. At least he tries to sound different from his peers, and I appreciate that.
Can't stand him as a person though-each time I hear him speak I just wanna smack him across the face. He's way too smug and cocky for my liking. People that talk about how important they are just piss me off:lol:

Is the industry so ridiculously far gone that we are now calling Kanye West a genius because of who he chooses to sample? Thirty years ago this guy would have been paid to wipe Prince's ass.

i give him props for changing things up but taking risks i'm not sure. It seems that he's trying to appeal to the younger audience more than ever. i've only heard two tracks and they're catchy but overall kinda flat. not sure if he broke any grounds here. [Edited 11/29/08 19:53pm]

Its a term that was never used in any other decade of music, the reason that we seperate now is that the "artists" of this decade are not mainstream.
