I don't know about Bobby, cause I think they found out he had AIDS right after he got in.

Bob found out when he got out, not when he got in. Either way, it was too late for him.

Several accounts--Unsung being one--said he found out on his way in or while he was in. Even Chico said he was told about Bobby's condition while he was still on lockdown. Weren't they released on or around the same time? That would mean Bobby was still imprisoned when he shared the news with his brother.

Another man who was instrumental in Switch and Chico's early solo career said he still remembers when Bobby called him from jail to tell him.

I don't even think they had to get "got".
5 years is a long time to be in lockdown and sexless. And they/Chico was young and sexual. I'm sure he/they found a way to get those needs met. A lot of men in prison have the disease, so it may not have made some of them any nevermind.

Yeah Bobby had Aids in prison. They tried to get him early release because of it and no go. That strikes me as odd. Drug dealing was wrong, but from what I have heard, Bobby had a very virulent strain of AIDS and he was pretty much a goner from the word go. The feds had to know he wasn't going to harm anyone. Not sure why they were so harsh. Chico implied that Bobby was still doing drugs in prison

Sometimes the feds act like jealous, vindictive little bytches. They weren't going to let him out because they were going to make him suffer--for being black while having more fame and fortune than any of them would ever see. Add to that the fact that his family was on top of the world. Oh yeah, they were going to bring him down and shatter that perfect little family. Sadly, their decision doesn't strike me as odd at all. Somebody needed to pad their resume and make a name for himself as a tough prosecutor. Pigs!

It's a shame if that man was getting drugs in jail. All that praying that jail may be exactly what El needs to get him straight and he probably has easier access there than when he was on the outside.

I think these drug laws need to be changed. If you're selling an illegal substance. Sure, you're comitting a crime. But using? You need HELP? Sentence that person to rehab.

EXACTLY! And make them stay there until they're ready. Let them realize how troubling drug abuse is.

There are a lot of conflicting stories about Bobby in jail and nowhere have I come across any info about his trial. He and Chico weren't arrested at the same time, I don't think and I believe they were tried seperately. Hell, I think Tommy got a slap on the wrist for selling fake coke to a cop in 86. He went to jail, but it may have been for a year or two.

The havoc drugs have wreaked on people--the black community especially--is UNBELIEVABLE!!! It's a shame there are scores of people who actually see killing a community of people who look just like them a viable employment option and lucrative business.

They sell with no loyalty and no conscience. They'll get their mamas hooked if they think they can make enough money off of her.

And then when people like Marvin, Whitney, David Ruffin and 'em get into hot water, we'll be "praying" for them. rolleyes PRAYING DOESN'T WORK ALL THE TIME! mad That's why Bobby said "fuck it". No one really guided him and it doesn't seem like no one's guiding El or Chico or whoever the fuck...

Don't even get me started on that Mama and all those prayers of hers that hit the ceiling and bounce back.

All that praying without realizing that God works through PEOPLE and other RESOURCES on the land. Pray for those messed up kids as you send them off to rehab. Then pray that God will work through the rehab to heal them.

Pray that God will provide for all of you as you leave the abusive husband who terrorized your eldest son and molested your daughter.

The Bible that I doubt that woman reads says that "Prayer without works is DEAD"

I can pray and fast for a job all night long, BUT until I send out my resume, I'll be one unemployed chick.

Curious as to how and why Chico is so messed up. He was born so much later than most of siblings, so he didn't see the ass whippings. But what do I know?

Unless you work hard at getting well, at getting away from an abusive relationship, at bettering yourself, and at getting job, prayer won't work all the time. Do less praying and more work, then when good things come, THEN say "bless God!" LOL

Whippings don't always equal drug abuse. Look at Whitney. neutral

That prison stint messed him up.

Most people come out jaded and disoriented. The world changes quickly. Here you've been locked down with some real madmen for years in subhuman conditions, probably raped. Years of your life gone. You spend each day fighting for your very survival, seeing men killed around you. Remember how hard Tupac was? Remember when MTV interviewed him in prison and he was like, "This is not the spot to be". He wasn't so bad then, as he talked about how hard jailtime really is.

Couple that with the fact that you have so much promise, a newly released record, get busted with your brother, sent to separate prisons, AIDS, brother dies when you get out. You don't know how or where you fit into society. Where you're gonna live, what you're gonna do....

Hell, I need a drink just thinking about it.

Jail fucks anybody up. Lots of people come out of jail worse than they were when they were out and about in the street.

It honestly don't matter. No matter what you're sentenced to or where you sent to, it's not good.
