Curtis Mayfield was an originator.

Before Dr. Dre, Puffy, Pharrell, Kanye, ect, he was the first producer to be on his artist tracks.

You can here him in many tracks with Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, ajor Lance and his other Chicago buddies from the early '60s.

I love the tracks that he produced for the movie "Sparkle", though it is the same tracks he's done for Aretha Franklin. Isn't he in the wheelchair now?

Yeah he was in a wheelchair after that terrible freak accident on stage. He passed away almost 9 years ago in 1999.
