fleet foxes already annoy me and i haven't even listened to them yet. i'm tired of the whole dirty hippie indie rock band thing. if i wanted to listen to brian wilson and pavement albums, i'd listen to brian wilson and pavement. i don't need them smooshed together. my life is not a reese's peanut butter cup commercial, despite what my diet may look like. take a bath. shave. put on some robot costumes and make some music i'll listen to. until then, leave me alone. mad

santogold is awesome, though. MGMT is pretty good too.

i was in love with Fleet Foxes for about 5 minutes, but then i ended up only listening to them twice.

i was clicking through my ipod today and thought about giving them another spin. but do they really have a grody image like that? because that's not what i need. i do need more robot costumes in my life.

I love Last.fm.

As far as their Top Artists of '08, I think the Ting Tings are overrated. I mean, for me, they just are average. They got helped by a lot of US MTV main channel play. They are on the same label as Calvin Harris and were discovered in the same way Calvin was (Columbia has some new people who are sniffing out indie-electro talent, and the money that was thrown into the Ting Tings by Columbia this year, is what Columbia threw in for Calvin in '07).

Both are bonafide British sensations. If you go to the UK, like I did this year, you'll hear their songs in the clubs, on TV adverts, @ retail stores, everywhere. Only difference is, Ting Tings caught on in America and got that coveted US MTV main channel play -- which is THE sole reason they're doing better in the US than Calvin [whoever was behind the scenes gave them that go-ahead] whereas he only had a cult following in the States and was relegated to MTV2 sub-channel play.

Given this, he actually does pretty well out here, especially in the West Coast and the Northeast US -- both of his New York headliners sold out. Same with the Ting Tings both of their New York headliners sold out. If Calvin was promoted on US MTV's main channel in the same way TTT were, you would hear random people screaming for "The Girls" and "Acceptable In The '80s" in America. I guarantee it.

I think The Ting Tings are also easier to digest by music snobs. Both TTT and Calvin make seemingly simple-yet-artful dance music, but Calvin got blacklisted by NME and sullied by all the Indie mags and blogs "that mattered" where TTT got praised in places he didn't.

Just something I want to get off my chest because I've been following the whole TTT thing this year, comparing it to Calvin's blitz last year. I've seen both artists twice in concert, respectively, so I like what their doing. Just wanted to chime in on what I observed.

As far as Katy Perry, I felt that "I Kissed A Girl" was the best mainstream pop song this year. It deserved to be higher in Last.fm's Best of '08 tracks list.

It was crazy, I went to clubs in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and I heard that song every night I went out for a month. Sometimes even 3 or 4 times in a night @ two different clubs.

"I Kissed A Girl" deserves its placement on the Best of '08 lists. It's a quality mainstream pop single. And one of the Best of '08.

Also, I love the fact that Last.fm is based out of the UK, so we don't get inundated with lists full of THa Carttter III and shit!

I'm so glad Last.fm isn't American. No Lil Wayne clogging the Best Artists and Best songs list. thumbs up!

nod I got hammered for saying so a ways back. However annoying the "gay for a minute" thing may be to some people, it's a great-sounding pop song.

Yeah, it's novelty, but nothing's wrong with that. I can't deny the song. It's great @ parties.

I think it is because Coldplay puts people to sleep, and the user can't take it off repeat when they are zzz

lol Nah, gotta say it's my favorite record the year. It's their best by far. Surprised "Lost!" didn't make the list, because that's my favorite. Perhaps the acoustic version "Lost?" stole some of its plays.
