The whole song is a rip off and a travesty. They should have paid the writers of this song more money. The Cold Crush Brothers, especially Grandmaster Caz, could tell you a few stories about these Sugarhill fools. I saw these idiots in "concert" miming to songs of Melle Mel together with Kurtis Blow...now, years later, Melle Mel is even part of this silly group. It´s all about the Benjamins.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It is kinda weird that Grandmaster Caz of Cold Crush Brothers lent his rhymes to this song which became the first commercial A-side rap single by 3 guys from Jersey and not one of the NY groups that were killin' it in the 70s.

But this track has merits all of its own and is still a crucial anthem of hip hop culture.

Now what you hear is not a test
I'm rappin' to the beat

lol Did any of you guys and gals see them perform last week on the D.L. Hughley show on cnn? I came home from a saturday night out, felt like checking the news, turned on cnn. D. L. Hughley's show was on, and all of a sudden I see a group of old guys rapping and it's the Sugarhill Gang lol They sounded good though.
