While Aretha, Whitney, Diana, Stevie, Marvin and the Winans have been recognized over and over again-there are several artists like Phyllis Hyman and The Clark Sisters who haven't been as honored. UnSung shows that the true story of Black music in America runs much deeper than the acknowledged superstars. Many of R&B and gospel's greatest musical pioneers have remained unsung in one way or another. Where are the 'hall of fame' achievement awards for late great Donny Hathaway - who influenced a generation of today's male singers? What about the accolades for pioneering family group Debarge who merged Jackson 5-like teen idol presentation with romantic writing and production, creating music that has been unexpectedly sampled by many of hip-hop's biggest stars? Though many of these artists managed to build a dedicated Black fanbase, they were not able to make the transition to superstardom. Why did these artists remain mostly "unsung" to the world at large? This new and exciting show will reveal the business and personal struggles that kept these artists from achieving the iconic commercial status they deserved. Don't Unsung only on TV One.

Unsung... they can basically talk about all the artists that were signed to Chris Stokes' label, but never released an album
hmmmmm I wonder why "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Can't wait to see that debarge segment. It kills me that Iris Gordy told El if he was lucky he would sound as good as Bobby. When now, El is as legendary as Bobby "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Alot of these black celebs convert to Islam for the hell of it. Like it gave 'em some edge or whatever. Like Spike Lee, during the "Malcolm X" movie but when he realised that the REAL & radical change of his lifestyle that kicked his ass, he bounced outta that

I loved it when the "Malcolm Little" in him came out with those guns and him telling Betty: "We built the biggest organization a black man has never seen. NIGGAS RUINED IT!" I wished he said "niggas fucked it up". And him correcting his boy: "A salaam aleikum, brother." (sorry I don't know the right spelling) "No, PEACE BE UNTO YOU, BROTHER, PEACE BE UNTO YOU." And who can't forget Mike "I'm gonna eat your kids and bite you in your body" Tyson?
