From his record sales. Unlike Prince whose catalog sales were shit in 2008.

Like MJ most of his fans r stuck in the past.

Unlike Prince, MJ knew the importance of owning his masters hence his renogiated deal with Sony in 1989/1990. He also knew the importance of owning not only his songwriting publishing catalog but those of other artists as well.

That's why MJ's sitting in a better position now and in the long term. He not only owns his masters (which sell a shitload each year) but both the MIJAC and Sony/ATV which are very successful catalogs that bring in a ton of revenue since many of the songs are licensed to TV/Film each year and the songs are covered by thousands of artists.

Prince doesn't own his masters and he doesn't own the songwriting catalog of any other artist other than his own. He had the opportunity to renogiate his deal properly with WB in the early 90's but was probably chasing the $$$ and forgot to read the fine print. His 80's hits may be impressive but I can't imagine his songwriting royalties amount to much since his music is hardly licensed and his catalog sales are limited to two releases (The Very Best Of Prince and Purple Rain) both of which experienced very minimal sales this year.

ASG, do you understand the difference between a person and a society. A person is called a physical person, a society is an entity called moral person.

Right? Sony /ATV makes money from publishing rights, not MJ. BUT 50% of Sony/ATV is owned by Michael Jackson, that means that 50% of that entity (worth approximately by latest estimates between 1.5 and 2 billion.), would go to MJ's pockets once the entity is dissolved or MJ sells his share.
However, MJ's share is so huge that it would alienate the company's developpement if he sells. Thus, he would certainly continue to owns his share as assets, and not possess it as liquidities.

MJ is a billionaire with assets, but he doesn't make liquidities.

Understand?

Jacko Settles With Prince

So that’s it for Michael Jackson’s lawsuit with Prince Abdulla of Bahrain. If Jackson hadn’t settled the case over the weekend he would have had to fly to London and testify today.

The Prince’s lawyers would have presented Jackson with a copy of the contract he signed with the Prince in which he agreed to record two albums, write a memoir and stage a Broadway show. In exchange, the Prince handed him an advance of $7 million. Jackson consequently took the money and left Bahrain, never to be heard from again.

The contract with the Prince was clearly stated. Jackson would have lost the case anyway. This way, he’s spared the further humiliation of having to make a public appearance.

Over the weekend, Jackson did put out a story that he’d converted to Islam, that the former Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam, helped him, etcetera, whatever. This was done to divert attention from the London trial. It wasn’t true and didn’t help.

Jackson has had numerous opportunities to convert to Islam, starting with the days when the Nation of Islam was running his world back in 2005. He didn’t do it then, and didn’t do it now.

But in the real world, Jackson’s problems are tremendous. He has to pay the Prince, and he’s just barely holding on to Neverland. And then there’s the issue of his current representation. Michael’s manager and publicist is Dr. Tohme Tohme, a Lebanese doctor living in Beverly Hills.

One simple solution: take the AEG Live offer and play 30 dates at the O2 Arena outside London. There’s a $10 million guarantee, and Jackson could gross $30 million. If he showed up and played all the dates, he’d be on the road to financial recovery. But it’s too easy. He won’t do it. My prediction, and I’ve never said this in this space before: Michael Jackson is over. He’s painted himself into a corner, and there’s no way out. Soon he’ll be doing original ring tones.

And now looks like Tito is having the same kind of problem...however, he handled his situation better...

Tito Jackson Opens Up About Loan Lawsuit
by Staff

Michael Jackson's brother Tito has broken his silence over a lawsuit from former pal, British martial arts teacher Matt Fiddes, insisting the legal spat over an unpaid loan is meritless.

Fiddes, who has previously served as the Thriller hitmaker's bodyguard, claims he gave Jackson 5 star Tito $29,800 (£20,000) earlier this year (08) so the musician could afford to cover a family trip to England to look at potential properties.

He subsequently filed suit against Jackson for almost $18,625 (£12,500), alleging the star hasn't paid the loan back.

But, three months after the news first surfaced, Jackson has spoken out, dismissing the lawsuit as "totally false".

Jackson claims the 10-year friendship turned sour when Fiddes tried to get more involved in the filming of TV documentary The Jacksons Are Coming, which chronicled the family's search for a U.K. home earlier this summer (08).

And when he realised Fiddes was just using him to further his own career, Jackson cut all ties with the martial artist and even stepped down as godfather to Fiddes' children.

He says, "When I saw Matt trying to run me the way he wanted, I put a stop to it. That's when things started falling apart. Some people want to be seen in your company and want to piggyback on your 40 years of hard work. I was supposed to have been godfather to two of his kids, but I cancelled that, because I can't be a godfather if I can't even get along with the father."

But Jackson insists he's not angry at his old friend's behaviour, because he's been dealing with people like that since finding fame with the Abc hitmakers.

He adds, "Matt's a very nice guy and I'm not mad at him. I'm disappointed and that's worse. I shared a lot with him and thought he was my friend... People try and use you because of the family name, and I just deal with it because I've been dealing with it all my life." (c) WENN

Damn, you should stick posting charts datas, you don't know anything else to do.

Number one, how do u know Sony/ATV is worth less than 1 billion? Are u working for an audit company. By latest estimates, it is worth between 1.5 and 2 billion.
Secondly, he created Sony/ATV in 1995 by joining ATV with Sony, hence Sony/ATV as a joint venture. How do you get 50 million $ from a 1 billion $ share?

I tell u, you should stick to copy and post.

Despite his recent legal issues with the Bahrain Prince, Michael Jackson just repaid a $2.5 million loan to City National Bank (CA).

Jackson took the money in 1993 right after the first allegations. The two parties agreed to enter into a copyright and mortage security agreement.

Since Jackson just repaid the loan the agreement has been terminated, and the titles of 1503 songs from the MiJac catalogue been transferred back to the star.

why you gotta hate on Tito? lol

This is his second album. He released a blues CD on an independent label back in 2003.

Is it safe to say that The Jackson family is the only family in the music industry where every member has released an album?

Austin, Siggy, Genivieve, Marlon Jr and Taryll

I'm only interested in Taryll's album because he's proved himself as a songwriter.

and you know Blanket's gonna have one too because he spits hot fire! lol

To be honest tho, I'm not too excited about ANY of them. Austin's songs are crappy, Marlon, Jr.'s a wanksta, we know how Siggy sounds, I don't know about Genieve (sp?), and Tarryl, eh, he could be a'ight. I'm just not too confident when the other Jacksons tried to get a record out because they already have three strikes against them.

One, they're Jacksons.
Two, their uncle is Michael and their aunt is Janet.
Three, they're wack.

lol

But maybe Tarryl can break the ice as you said, he's a good songwriter, so who knows?
