Motown (60s) hits compilation out right now?

I realize I don't have a really good compilation of the huge triple-A rotation Motown hits.

When I grew up, I used to hear these quite often. Back in the 80s, The Motown Sound WAS the "retro".

The movies got over on these hits a few times.. The Big Chill, Forrest Gump (although that had a bit of Atlantic soul too)... Whoopi Goldberg lipsyncing "You Can't Hurry Love" in Jumpin Jack Flash (1:50) lol

But on the real, I don't hear these songs like I used to.. On the radio, in the movies. I realize it's actually been a long time now.

They used to be inescapable, now I miss them.

The problem is, I don't want to go overboard and buy up everyone's albums, but I find some compilations way too skimpy--->http://www.amazon.ca/V1-1...B00005R8E1 eek

Is there a good Motown hits compilation out right now that does the catalog a bit of justice, but still contains only the mega hits?

I bought the Motown 40 compilation years back.

If it's at a store I frequent (you probably know what it is), that's what I would get (the Motown 50 compilation).

Well, there are many Motown compilations out there, but the Hitsville USA box set just outdoes all of them. It contains all the great hits and then some.

Personally, I am still debating over whether I will buy the new Complete Motown #1s Box or not:

It looks good doesn't it?

Now that looks like it could hit the spot since I was trying to narrow it down to the 60s Motown... there it is; 1959-1971!

Looks amazing but it is complete-ist without actually giving you a full collection of anything. I am not studying Motown... I just want an injection of the good ol' 60s Motown hits, like "Heatwave" "Jimmy Mack" "You Can't Hurry Love" "Dancing In The Street" without going overboard (and $pending too much).

I would like to have the number ones box. That is a nice looking set. Has anyone invested in the year-by-year singles boxed sets (complete motown singles)? I really want 1968-71

Yeah, this is the ultimate Motown box set! I bought it in 1992 when it was first released. It's really the only Motown compilation that you need. All the major songs are included. It stops in 1971 but there's a second box set that goes from 1971 to the early 90s.I got both of these.

I keep watching them on ebay. They are cheaper there, but I don't have nearly $100 for each set.

I think it has been so long that I forgot... and now that I've ventured out into the stores, I realize that boxset isn't THERE like I expect to just run into it.

I'm probably moving soon so I'll cop it in the next city.

Don't be surprised if I ask this question again redface

Yeah, me too. I think I'm going to break down and get the 1968-1971 collections. Those are some of my favorite years in music.
