Deborah Cox new cd The Promise

I just picked this cd up this morning. It is one of the best 2 R&B cd's of
2008 . I like it better than her last effort The Morning After which wasgood too. From what i've heard i feeling 9 of the 10 tracks on the cd with track 2 being just okay for me. The first single is did you ever love me is smooth. I like the opening track love is not in words also as well as All hearts aren't shaped the same and the uptempo tracks saying goodbye and beautiful U R. This is one of the few R&B cd's this year that i can honestly say i like listening to over and over again(mint condition). Anyone who has it yet tell me
what you think.

the thing is that her voice is always so familiar, that its very easy to confuse her for someone else. with the new showcase, some listeners may have a hard time finding that common ground. The thing is its like Ive heard all the songs before, either from Monica, Toni, Angie, Faith or Whitney.I swear I've heard Down 4 U in some shape or fashion before a million times. All for me tries to capture the energy of janet jackson while Syaing Goodbye sounds like one of TLC's leftover tracks. In saying that, she does have some serious bangers on the album which make up for the fact that the album struggles to pinpoint a personality, despite some standout production hands which is a shame really. the final track, "where do we go from here" is the standout track on the entire album. The song is structurally strong and possesses an immediacy that allows Cox to hit her stride, and makes listeners want to pay attention. im a sucker for the slow jams too, especially did you ever love me and all hearts arent shaped the same.

These two jimmy jam and terry lewis produced tracks show that these guys
still do it better than any producer in the game and they are tailor made
for deborah cox. I disagree with her sounding like the other artists mentioned.
There may be similarities with tamia in sound but not voice only because they
both have shep crawford contributing tracks to their projects but outside of
that deborah cox is probably the most authentic female vocalist to come along in the 90's. I know a deborah cox song when i hear her voice initially especially on ballads. Now these modern producers may give her a familiar sounding track that they may have given another artist but even deborah's voice can put her stamp on a bland track. That's why i prefer her to stick with jam/lewis and shep crawford as producers because they always seem to find what works for her. I am lost on the TLC comparison. As good as they were, they couldn't sing like deborah cox on her worst day.

I played it a few times today and was a tad underwhelmed. There are some songs but as a whole album I expected more.

All Over Me is surprisingly sensual. Did You Ever Love Me is nice along with a few others. Since I really like Deborah and her voice I expect some songs will grow on me. I'm already into Love Is Not Made In Words.

I dont have the cd yet, but she's been making the roungs on radio doing live studio jams for the recording. She sounds great! She's actually really funny in her interviews, too.
