Well it is November, I don't see why its not too early for Christmas music. Can't wait to blast my Sinatra christmas cd and the Rat Pack Christmas cd too! Nothing like hearing the old gang singing with cigars, cigarettes, and a scotch on hand!

on our way home from trick or treating on Friday we turned on on our favorite oldies station - they started their 24 hour Christmas programming on Halloween night! I love Christmas music but I am actually a little pissed - Jingle Bells on October 31st? We should be hearing Thriller!

It's 75 degrees here. In a way, if you want a surreal experience, being in the Southeastern US and seeing Christmas trees being put up in the stores while the A/C is blaring fits the bill.

God, no. shake I'm never really ready for Christmas music until the week of and then I'll only listen until Jan 1. We have a station here in Detroit that usually starts playing Christmas music Nov.1 and stop Jan 1. It actually boosts their ratings quite a bit during the season.

IMO, The Temptations has the best version. Followed by J5 and Johnny Gill. I'm not crazy about NEs.

I enjoy it as long as radio stations don't bombard us with it. I know that many stations have started playing Christmas music 24-7 until January. That wears me out because you have to hear 100 version of each classic.

I do ok with if a station mixes in 2 or 3 songs per hour along with their regular playlists.

I hope we get some good NEW Christmas projects this year. Last year, I really enjoyed the Isley's Christmas cd. Patti's was pretty good also. I hope that Aretha's is decent.

I listen to Christmas music all year 'round, but I don't expect to be inundated by it on radio, in stores, etc., until after Thanksgiving Day.

I LOVE NE's version! Was the first version of this song I ever heard actually. Then I discovered the J5 version and still haven't heard the Temps version or Johnny Gill's. I'll have to look for those "This Christmas". smile

I guess I like the "kiddie" version and you like the "grown folk" version! lol

doh! Man! We disagree about this one! I just heard the versions you hipped me too. The Temps version didn't do a whole heck of a lot for me (that is NOT Eddie Kendricks doing falsetto is it?). Johnny Gill's was a little better but, no (I feel he over sung this one toward the end). I still say NE's version is my top choice followed very closely by the (original) J5 version. You could probably say my preference toward NE's version is nostalgic. I can remember the Christmas of '85 like it was yesterday. Where I was, who I was in love with. Man, I was 12 years old at the height of New Edition fever! But even so (and I just re-listened to all four versions) I still think the intro to the NE version and the arrangement of the music on that cut in general (guitar solo toward the end) is the best. Still takes me back man...mushy

Eddie Kendricks was long gone by the time this came out. This recorded around the same time they recorded their legendary version of Silent Night (1980). It's from this album:

I think I like The Tempt's better because they do a great job harmonizing on the track. I also like the musical arrangement.

It is definitely a Christmas classic album for sure.

I agree that Johnny oversang the song in parts, but his version kills New Edition's.

I guess it's also because I'm not a big New Edition fan like most children of the 80s. I always thought they were winey sounding until they did the Heartbreak album.

Now The Temps version of "Silent Night" from the Give Love at Christmas album! Now that one I put down as a true Christmas classic! We can agree on that mos def!! See I ALWAYS thought that was Eddie singing falsetto on that one! I now know I was wrong, but a classic cut nonetheless! cool

Now Johnny's version of "Give Love on Christmas Day" does NOT kill NE's version! There's nothing special about the arrangement of the music at all. It's pretty bland actually.bored

You must of really NOT liked NE pre-Johnny Gill obviously! The reason they sound whiny now is because we're adults listening back. But to my 12 year old ears, they sounded great! In fact I absolutely adore the Christmas All Over the World album!!music

Well, you are right. I didn't care for NE before Johnny. As a matter of fact, I'm not a fan of children singing. They tend to irk the hell out of me. I do like the J5. I think that's because MJ's voice was not really squeaky on most their hit songs.

lol Man, that's gotta be my new sig!! So no Musical Youth, Osmands, New Kids on the Block, etc. Man, when I was a kid and listened to Jackson 5 I new it was a kid singing. I could relate to little MJ. And when I got older and heard New Edition it was like listening to new Jackson 5 music all over again! And, again, I could relate but on a pre-teen level. So, to, me the song "Give Love On Christmas Day" I first heard New Edition do it. I thought it was new in '85. When I heard the Jackson 5 version later I immediately went out and got the Motown Christmas Album (which I also love!) And so I also like Jackson 5's version of the song as well. But "musically" I think New Edition's version is the most beautiful!

Come on, now, YOU KNOW I DON'T OWN AN OSMONDS SONG!!! I did like Donnie's solo stuff in the 90s, but that's it. As for NKOTB, I only liked the songs with Jordan singing. Never liked Joey's squeaky voice.

I never got into NE in the beginning. I never cared for Ralph's voice much. I liked certain songs (Mr. Telephone Man), but that's mostly because they didn't shout the entire song.

Musical Youth? I liked "Pass the Duchie" and "Unconditional Love" (with Donna Summer), but never got into their music. I listened to their album and thought it was HORRIBLE. That singer, Kelvin (what a coincidence, huh), his voice annoyed me.

Don't even get me started on girl children groups (MoKenSteff, Kut Klose). Can't stand them either.

Hey, "One Bad Apple" by the Osmands is perhaps the best Jackson 5 clone song ever! I also liked Donnie's album Eyes Don't Lie. I'm not a fan of NKOTB per se but I did like "Please Don't Go Girl" and "I'll Be Loving You Forever". After that...eh. Musical Youth? I only like the same two songs you do! And as for the girl groups you mentioned. Haven't heard of either of them...

If you like their first three albums then you should like this. Though the cover looks like an Under the Blue moon doo-wop picture, the album is not in that style.

It is. It has a similar vibe to the Blue Moon project (to me anyway). Some of the NE experts may say different.
