At least Sade kept herself intersting and re-invented her music.

I love Ms.Jackson SO MUCH, but her music right now is like watching paint dry.

im a huge sade and janet fan but the last thing i would say about sade is that she reinvented herself, sade has never changed her sound or style, which is fine with me. i would love for janet to leave the pop and hiphop junk alone and make a slow jam album with a few mid-tempo jams thrown in there.and please let jam n lewis handle production

I wouldn't music

To me, she brought something different and extra with EACH album she delivered.

One thing you'll never witness in Sade's music; repetition.

Thats why I don't mind her hiatus.

And Ms.Jackson should never worry about sounding like Sade because she'll never sound or even bring something close to Sade's music anyway.

I don't want Janet to sound like Sade, but I wouldn't mind a video that features both Sade and Janet. tease Beautiful.

there's this slow jazzy song called Surrender by some female, and her voice always reminded me of janet's voice on 70's love groove, not sure who it's by, but I can totally see her doing a track like that

and of course she won't sound like sade, just a similar genre.

I love Janet, but unfortunately she is just not that deep, musically, right now. She has pulled songs from her soul before but these last few albums have not shown that side of her. She needs to get back to those days when she would share her recent experiences and what's on her mind with the producers (Jimmy and Terry) and then they would set it to wax. shrug

I agree, although I did like five or six songs a lot on Discipline more than most albums out now, it sucked that she didn't write any songs on it.

I was just expecting a different type of album from her when she revealed the title of the album, "Discipline." lol I thought I was gonna get this deep, inspiring type of album from her.

Yeah and there's another singer singing the title track but with different lyrics, same music why they changed it to 'discipline' the way it is, God knows. lol

I remember you telling me about that. lol I still haven't heard it.

BTW, that is a huge disappointment as well. Janet has atleast produced a track on her albums since "Control." I was surprised she didn't have any part in the creation of her songs this time. How ironic that when Jimmy and Terry are replaced, all of a sudden her song writing ability is removed.

I need to dig it up, maybe I can find it somewhere. lol The music is exactly the same, I just forget her name.

Yeah that's what I mean about the songwriting, makes me wonder how much of a part she has in the songwriting process period? That's my girl though, and every album has two great tracks always.

Believe it or not, I know about 5 people that can't stand Sade.

I, persoanlly, love her. She's not the best singer, but the music they make is magical.

I love Sade to death, but I see nothing re-inventing about her. Her music sounds the same to me, beautifully and perfectly same to me (there´s just more quitar and less sax on her last album but that´s it).

hmmm Who knows,it might have been a refreshing change of pace for Janet.Imagine her in a beautiful evening gown, singing well-written songs of substance, being classy and sophisticated. What's clear is that her recent direction hasn't worked for her at all.

She did classy segments on her recent tour. Not all of her recent material is dance oriented or what Vain likes to call shit hop smile.

janet dont need to sound like sade or nobody else, she's had a very good career doing her own thing, she just needs to stop following behind jd and make the kinda music she really wanna make, now that she's not with a label maybe she wont get so caught up in 1st week sales and radio play and all that crap.she still have good songs like enjoy, with u,take care, cant be good, luv, ect, i would be happy with an album full of these type of songs

I've been thinking about this topic. If Janet was to make a nice "mellowsmooth" album, it would work well. Come on, now, we know that the mid-tempo and slow jams are some of the most memorable Janet songs ever.

I want Janet to just TRIP OUT and do a World album or somethin'. Get ethnic for a second, get some Together Again-like braids. Afro-Brazilian garb, bust out with some live percussionists, horns, jazzed as fuck. Shaking her hips, barefooted. Afro-Cuban, Fela Kuti type stuff. Play Radio City-sized venues, get really mature yet hip and bugged.

I would faint. I would reinstitute JANFAN4L if she did that.

Not really, cause Sade has been singing in that style since her debut. If people are suggesting that she changes her style that means that Janet is NOT doing as good as Sade...

yeah I hear you, but in the bigger picture if janet sells more records and concert tickets than sade, then who should be more like who?

Sade fills a smaller niche, and has maybe been more stable, but never a superstar exactly.

Of course, I'd prefer to be Sade than Janet lol

You are really comparing apples to oranges. Sade has and in other countries still holds "Superstar" status no matter what she sings. This is because, Sade started out as a singer and is STILL a singer. Part of the reason why Janet still sells those seats is due to her fan base, which is partly made up of people who are there only to see Janet sing one of her old songs. Whether we like to admit it or not, there are those of us who would rather hear her sing, "What have you done for me lately" than something current. If their are those who like her current stuff, it is because it sounds like something that she has done in the past. I feel,(and this is my personal opinion), that Janet is a good performer but, only a so-so singer. Sade and her are in two different leagues.

As long as Janet gets away from the hip-hop nonsense, I think she would have a great album. I love her slow jams, dance tracks, and even her heavy hitters (as I like to call them lol ) like "What About?" worship . Janet just needs to go back to sounding like Janet, because when she did Control, RN, janet. , and VR, all of those albums were different but extremely great. I love Sade, but Sade has always been content with her sound so she has never had a huge change in her style. Her voice is soo soothing and I love it, just like I will always love India Arie. Janet has gone through so many changes throughout her career. So I hope Janet never sounds like Sade for an entire album. They're two totally...and I mean totally different artists IMO.

If Janet dropped all this hip-hop trendy bullshit...that goes for all artists...and did an electronica album, I wouldn't mind, but the hip-hop or shithop as it has been affectionately dubbed by Vainandy here on the .Org, needs to disappear from her style because it obviously doesn't work for her and isn't making her anymore popular with each new album release. I really want her to get out of this slump and come with something amazing...if Mariah can do it with "Emancipation of Mimi", than I believe Janet can too. nod
